Beautiful house, here in New Jersey home prices are about as bad as California from what I hear. Almost impossible to get a decent house under 500k.

Ok, I'm sure other places are bad, but I'll put California into perspective. Our home is 2800sq/ft 41yrs old and we bought it 1yr and a 1/2 ago. We paid $480K for it in a pretty decent area. My sister bought a 5yr old house that is 2300sq/ft in a good area and paid $590K for it. I believe the last I saw the exact floor plan of my house selling for $750K in under a year. Ridiculous in my opnion. You can't even touch a new 3000sq/ft home for under $1mil right now in a good neighborhood. I'm astonished to see that my friends even sold their 3 bedroom 1300sq/ft CONDO for over $500K. A CONDO for crying out loud. Oh well such is the order of supply and demand!

Ha who wants to live with us anyhow, the land of the earthquakes and power outages!

Wow, those are some pretty crazy prices!! I bought my house last year and it is a 2300sq ft split entry, four bedroom, and a 26x28 detached two car garage. The house is in a very quiet neighborhood on a dead end street and I only paid $101k for it.

a nicer neighboorhood (North Shore) same size house $800,000+.

My wife & I paid $211,000 for our home 8 years ago..we're in a decent area, by my reckoning our house is running at approx $450,000 in today's market.
The raffle house was 2100 sf! RE prices aren't totally out of control here, yet, guess it's because land is still abundant!

Speaking of house prices. In the last 8-10 years house prices have doubled in my area (Reno, NV). I'm in the process of buying a new 2000 square foot home w/ a 2 car garage for the bargain price of $380k. Resale homes of the same size range as what I am buying are approaching nearly $500k in some neighborhoods.

Oh well, at least we don't have S.F. Bay Area or Southern California prices....yet.
