Right now i got NON resonated test pipes, coupe middy, mangaflow muffler. rasp is terrible! i've been looking into either buying some resonated test pipes or a resonated xyz pipe. which is expensive, but nice. i wanna keep my exhaust kinda loud and keep good flow. Any suggestions? i hear some people say that a hr y pipe or a Tanabe y pipe made all the difference with their rasp but i find that hard to believe because they have no heat shield nor resonated.

Id really appreciate some input, i'v read a lot about both just cant seem to compare them at all.

Where there is too large a discrepancy in either restriction or expansion of the flow is probably where the rasp is being introduced.

You should figure out the inlet and outlet sizes of each individual exhaust component and plan out your exhaust that way.

A more experienced/knowledgeable member may know more on this but I don't think it's as simple to solve by just throwing in a resonator or two at the problem.

yeah i understand if outlets and inlets dont match up that will create rasp but i'm running stock 2.5 or 2.25 all the way out. i honestly think its kinda my y pipe doing it but idk, that's why i don't know if a y pipe would be better, and if so a resonated xyz or maybe like a tanabe, or resonated cats would help.

If you have the stock Y-pipe, that's your problem right there most likely. The XYZ pipe should fix your problem.

Of course a resonator or two will cut down the rasp.... When you remove a resonator, you are more likely to introduce rasp, so if you were to reverse this process it would have the opposite outcome.

Yeah i may go with it i wish it wasn't so expensive. i could buy a Megan racing cat back exhaust for that! I been searching forums for like 4 hours now. i kinda wanna try in find some Labree / Sebring Tuning resonated test pipes, or fast intentions.
The test pipes i have now are just some off ebay invidia test pipes. They already cracked i had them welded back together.

^^ Lots of people with the cracking issue on TP doesn't seem to matter the brand. IIRC there is a thread on here somewhere with all the different brands of TP cracking at some point or another with the exception of ART pipes, but again comes the cost.

ART Pipes haven't been around long enough to crack, although I have seen some of them with leaks where the welds are.

I'm going to guess with the amount of R&D that went into the ART pipes that they are built a lot better than most resonated test pipes. Just my $0.02.

If you search around, there have been issues with ART pipes with older versions.

OP, I had Megan V2 resonated test pipes and never had a problem with them. Those TP's literally had thousands of runs at the track and didn't crack. I even cracked and engine mount and they did just fine. I think it was mainly due to the built in flex joints that kept it from cracking.

I now have ART's and feels much better in the low end, but afraid of it eventually cracking due to not having built in flex joints.

I installed Megan resonated V2 test pipes and a stillen exhaust on a sedan and it came out sounding good. I would rock it. If you can find a used Stillen exhaust, I'd pick it up. A little bit of rasp, but it wasn't too bad. Here's the video we did after the install.

Nice man, sounds great! I got a coupe middy now with a mangaflow muffler and of course non resonated test pipes. i was kinda debating on megan racing or top speed resonated! i'm kinda leaning to megan racing!

There are a couple of different ways to address it.

Rasp typically happens in the Y pipe. And of all the Y pipes, the resonated XYZ is by far the best for reducing or eliminating rasp. This will certaintly help.

Another option is to use the ART pipes. Relative to your test pipes they help a lot too.

Thirdly,if necessary, the combination of the two will help even more.

Yeah i agree, i would like art pipes but there expensive! So is the xyz but its very nice y pipe! Sabree tuning i would like but their gone. I've been reading a lot about Megan racing test pipes and heard nothing but good things so far. Either those or maybe top speed resonated test pipes. Then i'll be able to afford a aftermarket y pipe too and eventually the Megan racing cat back exhaust for my sedan i think that would sound good. Right now i just have test pipes a coupe middy and magnaflow muffler. debating on what pipe is better top speed or Megan. i like the flex joints on Megan. my pipes now both cracked and i had them welded up.
