Compression Rod and CV Boot Clamp Replacement

Hi guys,

I finally got around to changing the compression rod on my 2005 G35x, but I ran into a strange problem and thought I'd check with someone who has done this job before.

After installing the new compression rod and putting things back together, I noticed that the compression rod interferes with the CV boot clamp. Is this normal for there to be such a small clearance between the new rod and the CV joint? What am I supposed to do now??

Incompetence

The sad answer is that they gave me the compression rod for the 2WD coupe and not the AWD sedan that I asked for. Never underestimate the extreme incompetence of sales staff! I even gave them the Nissan part number for the AWD sedan compression rod, but alas, it wasn't enough to stave off their utter and complete ineptitude.

Always give the dealer your VIN for direct placement parts. Give parts numbers for interchangeable parts that you KNOW will fit well.

I didn't buy it from a dealer; I got it from a large auto parts chain. Yesterday I bit the bullet and went to buy the correct part from the dealer though. Sometimes talking to customer service reps at some places is like discussing rocket science with a gorilla.
