Both should not be touched when hot. Well, at all, you'll wreck the bulb with the oils on your hands.
But both run too hot to touch.

Those appear to be conversion kits for the high beam/fog lights. If that's true they won't replace your failing ballast. Look at the ebay link I posted in post 3 for a good deal on OEM.

Finally got around to playing around with replacing the ballast. Purchased the following off ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/XENON-H1-600...06%26rk%3D1%26 as I did confirm the ballast was bad by plugging in the good one from the other light and the bulb came on. Only thing on this item the wiring instructions are not very clear not sure where I attach the power source to from the new bulb (red and black wire). Do I need to splice it to the main power source on the headlight assembly or to the power source from the old ballast? If anyone has pictures or instructions on the wiring of this product that would be helpful. Again this is for a 2004 g35 sedan.

Help Replacing Manufacturer Ballast with a HID Conversion Kit
I'm replacing the manufuacturer HID low beam ballast as its gone bad. Purchased the following on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/XENON-H1-600...06%26rk%3D1%26. It states its compatiable with my 2004 G35 Infiniti. Took off the headlight assembly to have easy access to the back. Anyhow the conversion kit seems easy to install, where I'm having trouble is what to wire the power source to for the conversion kit primarily the (black and red wire). Do you splice it directly to the power source for the headlight assembly or does it need to be spliced to the power source coming off the old ballast?

The kit should have come with instructions, there's no reason for a 'kit' on a car that ALREADY has HID's.
All you needed was a ballast.

^^That's an OEM replacement....
