Another Magnaflow Axelback Thread

Well there are two other magnaflow #14815 threads that I know of, but I figured the more opinions and reviews the better. This is my review of the magnaflow rear section. I will link the other threads below:

https://g35driver.com/forums/media-s...muffler-2.html

https://g35driver.com/forums/media-s...axle-back.html

After reading through these threads I decided that I needed to try this muffler out for myself. I ordered from Amazon for $135 with free shipping. A pretty good deal if you ask me! I will link the Amazon order link as well:

Amazon Amazon

About 5 days later, I received my muffler

I took it to my local muffler shop where they installed the muffler. I told them to use the OEM hanger locations and to not cut into my coupe midpipe (I believe thescreensavers' shop did this). The result was they made a custom elbow, or bend, to compensate for the magnaflow being a center inlet opposed to the OEM muffler's offset inlet.

The Magnaflow sticks out a tiny bit more from the rear bumper as well.

The result was exactly what I was looking for. The first two days the muffler was pretty loud, but after that it calmed down. I have an HR y pipe and a coupe midpipe as well and the sound is coupe-like, only a bit deeper, louder and more aggressive. I have gotten tons of complements from my friends saying that it purrs, sounds very "pure", like it was made as a factory upgrade almost. This is due to the fact that there is absolutely no rasp, and the muffler still maintains the same great VQ sound.

After the two days of the muffler settling, I am not experiencing any drone. This seems to me to be the best OEM+ setup. No drone, no rasp, and very cost effective. Install was $75 so in total the cost was $210 installed.

Edit: Video up! Ignore my idiot friend's video title and description haha

Very nice that your shop took the time to make the flange, if I could go back I would and have this done.

enjoy

I really like how they did it to where they bolted it on instead of welding it to the pipe. I think I may go the same route with mine Great Review

You had me at OEM+, that's my style. How would you rate the drone you had with the stock muffler? I also have the HR Y pipe with the coupe mid and I'm really getting tired of the drone.

Thanks for the review and looking forward to the videos.

I had little to no drone with just HR Y and coupe mid, but this will definitely not help the drone. The first two days I noticed drone, but now after the muffler settled i cant even hear it. However i cant see how this could reduce drone . If you want less drone you could try a 05/06 midpipe (smaller resonator than the 03/04, but still larger than the coupes) or a Dynomax VT muffler(17156) that I believe SDGenius is putting on his wife's sedan to reduce the drone.

Thanks, that's what I figured. Just surprised that you didn't have much drone with just the HR Y and coupe mid. Been following Mrs Genius' build too and waiting for the install and vids of the Dynomax VT

My oem muffler weighed roughly 32 lbs on my scale. However this is probably off since the whole thing wouldn't fit on the scale. So if anyone could help me out on OEM muffler weight that'd be great. But as for the magnaflow, in box shipping weight was 14lbs. So the muffler weighs roughly 12-13 lbs. So I dropped about 15lbs

You get on the scale, note the weight. Then get on the scale holding the old muffler... BAM.
