Engine swap 04 g35x
I have a 04 g35x sedan and I'm looking to change the engine because of excess oil consumption. I'm wondering if I'm only limited to that years engine or am I able to use a 2005 VQ35 engine as well. I know there's different ratings for coupes and model years just wondering what my options are.

05-06 engine is different, but could be made to work. The block is the same, your transmission will mount up, etc. But the heads, timing case, etc are different.
The 2003.5-2004 have a different ECU than the 2005-2006 though, and I'm not sure you can run them on on-another. I'm sure you could make one work for the other, but might not run ideally without some tweaking.
And then the 2003.0 has a different ECU also, you don't want that one, it's a POS.

How about using your stock ecu with the swapped engine...

That doesn't mean one wont work on the other, but you're looking for trouble trying to mix them up.
Ideally, you should always get the ECU out of the car you got the engine from. And make sure that ECU is compatible with all your stock Chassis (shell) wiring, harnesses, plugs, etc.

I recently replaced my 04 35x engine as well due to OC issue (130K mile on it)
The following should work:
Automatic: 03-06 sedan. For coupe (you will have to retain the upper oil pan from your current engine)
Manual: 03-04 (05 and 06 manuals were rev-up and they won't work)
My replacement was from an '05 coupe (30k miles) and I had to retain the upper oil pan from my 04x
Hope this helps!!

What? the early 2003.0 ECU is different, can cannot simply be changed with the 2003.5-2004 style
Yeah I have no idea if it would work. I do know that they're different. Different heads, different cams, different timing case, different accessory drive setup.
