Actually the upper ends of the Fram filters do not use the paper end caps. Just the low end Fram.

The seal rings have been known to come loose on Honeywell filters as well.

All FRAM filters they've opened up are cardboard end caps. Unless something has changed after 2008, then they're still cardboard. Either way, the paper element is still scaring people away.

MUST WATCH VIDEO - of all the oil filter cut-open reviews that are out there, this is easily the most entertaining. I absolutely laugh my head off every time I watch this. But it is also good info.

Pure 1 here. Used to run TG fram.

Newer Honda oil filters are made by Honeywell, the same company that makes FRAM, that's why all the cardboard. The old JDM Honda oil filters were made by Wix, and for the price, were much better than most filters on the market. I overlooked that minor detail when I went to the dealer to pick up a few filters, thanks for reminding me. At least I didn't pay much for them and they're for the MDX, which is just a beater.

There are better alternatives than the OCOD for low end filters, which I'll state again are overpriced for what they are (cardboard end caps, lower quality construction).

Fram Ultra and Extended Guard filters are quite robust and a good value.

I just picked up a Fram Ultra and have used OEM filters in the past for my car, OEM for the wife's car. I've never had an issue with OEM either.

Fram is perfectly fine, they had a few shitty runs decades ago (think 30 or so years) and like any business re-engineer, redevelop, and retest their filters. I wouldn't compare a '12 CTS-V to an '82 Cimarron.

I used the standard Fram (PH8) filter on our Ford Explorer .. low oil pressure light came on after 1500 miles. Plenty of oil .. replaced with a Wix and have not had any problems since.

^ How long ago was this? Sucks it happened, that would turn me away too.

As I mentioned they have really stepped up though, but I would find a better alternative than the PH you used aka OCOD.

This was a good video thanks for sharing, that guy cracked me up.

Question about using a bigger size though: wouldn't the larger volume reduce oil pressure, which could reduce oil flowrate? I understand the VQ35DE is the same engine in both the M35 and G35, but maybe they were plumbed a bit differently, requiring specific oil pressures?
