2006 Rough Transmission. Help!

I just bought this 2006 G35 sedan, Ive been driving it around for a couple hours now and i am noticing that the automatic transmission shifting thru the gears are a little rough. Even when i go from park to drive it gives a little jerk. I feel like it should be a lot smoother for an Infiniti. This is my first Infiniti so it could be like this and im just not use to it. Has anyone ever noticed this issue with their G or something could just be wrong with mine. It also only has 40,000 miles on it. Any comments on this would help me a lot. Thanks!

The jerk from Park to Drive and stuff is just because its a RWD car. Mine does it, and my parents Kia Sorento does it as well; its the RWD. Now if its really rough when driving that could be different.

Have you checked the fluid in the transmission? Could be low or old...might be time for a change if they haven't kept up on the service.

What?? there is no reason a RWD transmisison should shift harder than a FWD transmission..

Shifting into R or D when cold can be quite firm as the idle RPM is high, but should be fine when it is warm.
As mentioned.. check the fluid make sure it is clean and doesn't smell burnt, confirm the level is correct.
If you have no luck, it might be worth getting it checked.

Once its moving, than no it shouldn't. But when you take it out of Park into Reverse or Drive initially than there is a little jerk...and I've noticed that on every RWD car I've ever driven. But yes, definitely check the fluid.

at 40,000 miles the transmission is pretty much new. check the level like others have suggested.

The jerk you feel is normal. try moving the shifter more slowly rather than in one swift motion.
Also it can be much rougher if you've parked the car on an incline and didnt use your e-brake before putting the car in neutral and then into park.

So i drove it around some more and i definitely need to take it back to the dealership to have it looked at. Its way too rough when putting it into D. Ive tried to go really slow and go into N first Then like a good pause Then into D and it just jerks forward really tough. Hopefully they can fix that ill keep you guys posted on what was wrong with it. Thanks for the help everyone!!!

Hope they can find the problem. A little jerk is normal, but a rough one isn't.

yes it shifts like that from park into reverse or reverse into drive. But once you actually start driving around you should not feel any shift rougher than any other normal car you've driven (unless you are WOT).

The jerk could just be from the suspension loading and unloading due to transmission output.

Okay everyone, i just went and picked my car up from the dealership today. This is what they told me, they did a transmission service on it meaning basically just flush and it still does the jerk when you put it into gear and when your accelerating quickly. The mechanic said he thinks its the "trans valve" (i dont even know what the hell that is). The cool thing is i bought a 3 year/36,000 miles warranty so as soon as my warranty kicks in probably a week or 2 they are going to give me a brand new transmission.

i was thinking that this could be the issue and nothing wrong with the transmission but the car is basically stock and it only has 40,000 miles on it. Maybe the owner before me just drove the **** out of it..

^^ I doubt it.. if your suspension has that much movement in it, you would have other issues.
