How to sell my car (opinions needed)
How to sell my car (opinions needed)
I've listed my car on Craigslist and haven't gotten any interest. I've also listed it on CL Maine because I have a place in Maine even though I live in New Hampshire. It's priced right around book value and I think it's priced competitively but it also has a lot of bonuses like all new fluids, tinted windows, etc. How can I make it attract more attention (other than the obvious suggestion of lowering the price a ridiculous amount)?
Here's my CL ad: http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/3319036228.html

don't talk about your $50 midpipe..
it doesn't do anything to the car except mark it "modded".. which is a turn off for MANY people...
make sure you mention is AWD.. ALL WHEEL DRIVE.. does great in snow..
no one knows what the "x" stands for ...
the ad formatting sucks.. use bullet points..
good luck man..

I agree with Joe. Most people buying used cars want a vehicle that has been unmolested and pampered. Focus on how clean, reliable and "well maintained' the vehicle is, then include major maint. if you had them done at the dealership. If the carfax is clean, mention that as well.
Remember a potential buyer can run the VIN by their local dealership and get a snapshot of the maint history.
Personally, I think the target market for a high mileage, reliable Japanese sedan like a G is with a younger audience, possible parents helping their kids buy a first car or maybe a young family getting started.
Appeal to broader audience by focusing on tangibles that are standard checklist items for people entering into the unknown, which is essentially anyone buying a used vehicle out of warranty.

wats wrong with buying a car off cL? im surprised people would even still look through short vague descriptions in news paper ads. talk about a waste of time and energy. its 2012 people lol
That is a very nice looking G. Better I would much rather have had the White/Tan instead of my Grey/Black scheme. Wood looks good. That being said I recently sold a Honda Fit on CL and subsequently bought a G35x on CL as well. I don't know about your state but NV has a
'no sales tax' when registering a private party sale car. The seller posted this info and I researched it a bunch and this assisted in me buying from him.
From those 2 experiences here is what I discovered and maybe it'll help in your posting:
1) I posted on Cars.com and CL and for the longest time I didn't get any hits. you'll get a bunch of lowballers but just ignore them. A real buyer will ask you a bunch of questions or will just ask for a phone number to call or setup a meet to look at the car.
2) More detailed pictures of the inside will help
3) Describe everything that can be seen as even a parking dent. The seller didn't divulge a lot of info and this assisted in me bargaining him down because there were a lot of small dents and such
4) Your price may be a tad high for a 100k+ car...remember that you are trying to price below what they'll get at a dealer and above what you get as a trade-in. For example my 05 G35x had only 32k miles and I got it for around 15.8
5) All of your info is helpful but yeah keep it simple. Maintenance just say it has all been maintained and when the last time you did "everything" like the big expensive stuff. Also put down what percentage of tire life you got left.
6) Bullet points will help. Section it off. Interior condition, exterior condition, history, maint history, current status of fluids and stuff since last major service. Any other "bonuses".
Good luck
