Hello fellow G driver and enthusiasts!

So I'm approaching in the next couple weeks 4 years of ownin my car and I have a feeling the battery has seen better days. I got it as a CPO in 2008 and personally have not changed te battery yet, not sure if the dealer dropped one in before I bought it.

Living in NY with winter quickly approaching, I don't want to run the risk of walking out to my car some morning or evening to find a dead battery. That said- any reccomendations on a replacement? I'm not looking to get the most expensive one out there, but being in upstate NY you definitely need some cold cranking power. Looking for your advice...now!

Nissan, interstate, diehard, Walmart, autozone?

 

I have an autozone one and it works good, but I don't live in the cold.

Consumer Report did some test a while back. The Walmart batteries have received a high rating and at reasonable prices.

 

This!!! Or a yellow top (I have a yellow top) but all in all imo are the best quality...
Standard batteries imo are a waste for me anyway especially when cold weather comes around.

 

If you're not running a lot of aftermarket electronics, then a regular battery with good cold cranking amps is just fine. I'm about to buy a diehard platinum battery but i have a lot of aftermarket electronics running.

 

My car sat in the garage for a month and it killed my Red Top, after which it wouldn't hold a charge...
I've switched to an Odyssey PC1400 (and got myself a trickle charger in case I have to leave town like that again). Working great so far.

 

Don't buy an Optima battery, I have the yellow top and replaced it 3X in 3 years (100% free replacement for first 3 years). My car sits alot and the battery does not hold a full charge more than a week, keep it on a battery tendor now.

Theres only 4 major automotive battery manufactures in the US, autopart store batterys are made by reputable company's.

 

Die Hard Gold is what's in my car.


A trickle charger is a device that you plug into A/C power and connect to the battery that keeps the battery topped off and doesn't let it drain. It's for when you go a month or so without driving the car to keep the battery from dying. Not exactly something you can easily use if you live in a apartment complex or park in the street, but if you have access to a plug it comes in handy.

I use one on my Mustang which I start up maybe once every 2 months or so.

Yes, I read that. Got me thinking more expensive or a brand name isn't necessarily better. That's what prompted me to see what folks on here use...

 

+1 for Autozone batteries. Never had an issue with one.

 

I did a ton of research 3 years ago when I needed a battery and ended up with a Duralast Gold battery: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...5788_401127_0_

At the time, this one was in Consumer's Guide top 2.

I think there are alot of good choces out there.

 

I work for autozone and the batteries are probably one of the better things we sell with the duralast name.

The warranties have changed recently however for the regular red top duralast. There is no longer a pro rated 7 year warranty, only a 2 year free replacement. The golds however, have stayed the same at a 3 year free replacement and a 8 year pro-rated warranty.

I would buy one if I needed a battery for sure, IMO one of the better batteries out there for the money, and no, not because i work there
