Where to place jack stands
Where to place jack stands
Hi. 2004 G35x sedan. I know how to use the jack that came with my car and the jack points for raising the sides, front and rear. My question is, where do I place the safety jack stand once my car is up in the air? It's a little bit perplexing to me. I have a pair of jack stands (see url of pic) that have somewhat of straight and wide flair at the top. Not a little slit like the car jack has. Where can I safely put my safety jack under my car without experiencing any unsettling surprises? I know this has been discussed before, but please look at the pic of my jack stand. Maybe I have one that just won't work safely with a G35. I appreciate your input.

Up front, i put mine on the cradle where the lower control arms bolt to the frame right next to the removable skid panel. There's a nice flat zone that's solid enough to put a jackstand.
Out back, i put them under the control arms, but that's a little sketchy. Fortunately, most of the time when i do oil changes, trans flushes, belts, etc...i'm working up front only. I chock the rear wheels and jack the front up high and put the stands where i described.
If you are using the OEM jack to do maintainence onthe car, id recommend a hydraulic jack instead. They are cheap and much safer and easier to use
