Windshield Wiper Stuttering - Solution?

Hello all,

I've been reading the forum trying to find a solution for my stuttering windshield wiper blades, and have found that it's normally the bushing in the links or the motor assembly itself. I've got a couple questions regarding figuring out which one it is.

1st - I haven't taken the time to get under the hood and look at the links - it's been quite cold here and I don't want to be standing outside in the snow!

One thing that I think would be helpful in the diagnosis is that the wiper blades stutter about half way back to the home position (on the way back down). However - if I push the wiper lever up (the single wipe mode) and hold it up until the wiper blades are all of the way back down to the home position, it will not stutter - ever. It's a bit of a timing trick because I have to release the lever just after they pass the stutter point but before they go into another cycle. Any suggestions or has anyone else found this to be true? If so, what was the fix for it?

Thanks!
Eric

Same thing

Ive been dealing with this all winter. Now that the temp is above freezing, the problem seems to have stopped. Like you, i had to figure out the timing. As it seems to have gone away in the warmth, im guessing its the bushing, for me anyway

If it is stutterring when the blade is heading towards the park positon when in intermittent mode then it is most likely the home sensor built into the wiper motor. They tend to go bad and then only act up in the cold weather. I replaced the motor with a used unit several years ago which fixed it for quite a while but it came back somewhat this past winter.

I had this problem last year and ya know it might have been just as well been during the cold months. I can't remember. But since it wasn't acting up since, I figured it was just a fluke. I'll keep an eye on mine now. Thanks.

Same problem here. I fixed the links and still have the issue but only when it's cold. It's probably the motor.
