Windshield wiper is hitting the trim when activated

Makes a very audible banging sound every time the wiper goes. Anybody know why this may be? I took off the nuts to paint them over the summer. Maybe I moved the wiper up or something so now its offset?

Any ideas/similar experiences?

id remove the wiper, make sure its in the off position and put the wiper back on aligned with the other side. then adjust accordingly if needed.

Pretty much always, except when the rain is really heavy because that seems to slow the wipers down.

loosen the bolt, adjust the wiper so it can't swing that far over, then re-tighten the bolt. it was probably just misaligned after you painted the bolts last summer.

Check how much the wiper arms move when the wiper motor is off. If there is excessive play and both arms move the same amount you will need to replace the wiper linkage.

There are these little plastic caps on the arms of the wiper assembly, they wear out... You have to replace one or possible two of the long straight metal pieces which come with brand those caps.. It's called the assembly link arm.

You may need only one or both.
parts needed:

(Long one): INF 28842-AL500 $12.04

(Short one): INF 28841-AL500 $11.44
