Exhaust Corrosion 2004x Sedan

Hey guys,

I noticed this am that there was a rattling coming from the rear of my 04X. I hopped back there and noticed that the muffler was loose, as in I can push it with my hand and it moves pretty freely.
I have read the other exhaust threads, but don't know the actual pas that are affected/ need replacing so the "y-bar" and "midshaft" don't mean much.
I am hoping you guys can look at these pics, and let me know what I have and what I need to replace. From there I'll do the research as to what I like best/can afford.

Thanks in advance.

Common issue

https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...er-flange.html

I plan on cutting the flange out and having a shop weld a peice of pipe place.

I've been driving for a while with a leak, and kinda like the exhaust tone. HOWEVER, when i'm tired and at the end of the day and want to go home, the drone is ANNOYING.

I've discovered i like my cars silent now. I'm getting old

I found this link from that post that seems promising:

Have you given that any consideration-if not, why not?

Thanks- Just so I am clear, in addition to those two parts, I'd need the actual muffler, correct?

^^ we dont know if you need a y-pipe (probably not), the midpipe looks alright from the picture you have given. either need the joint cut out and weld in a new piece of pipe or replace the whole muffler section.

Holy crap. Luckily mine are still nice. I swap between my muffler and straight pipes every year for inspection. Glad I know of this problem now. Will some high temp paint help with this? A few bucks in paint to save hundreds later... I'm more worried about the midpipe than the exhaust.

I bought the parts to do this repair, but the way my flange rusted out, i don't think it's going to work. The rust actually took out a bit of the lip too. So i'm sure i would be able to get it to clamp up and hold, but I think i'd still have a leak.

Since i have zero desire to change my exhaust..i'm at the point where i'll just tell a shop to weld in a 6" pipe and call it a day.
