2005 G35 Sedan - common issues
I am new to the G35 world, enjoyed the volvo turbos, but want to try out Infiniti for a change!
Looking to get a 2005 G35 Automatic. Searching through this forum, could not find any definitive posting that listed all common issues with this model year, so wanted to ask around.
What are some common problems for this year model? Here is what I have found:
1. Spark plugs can get oil on them - Valve cover/seals go bad. At what mileage does this happen?
2. Engine eats more oil - Piston ring issue. the TSB seems to be only for MT cars. Does this affect Automatics too?
3. Ticking noise - seems like a window fix
4. The radio/AC control issue seems to be for 2003 cars and not 2005, is that correct?
What else?

also: compression rod bushings; front wheel bearings especially on AWD.
I just replaced the spark plugs on my '05 with 105K miles (were original). All plugs had very worn electrodes and one was soaked with oil from the valve cover leak. But even with that, the engine ran great and i don't even notice any change in performance or fuel usage with the new plugs.
I have minimal oil loss - maybe 1 quart every 4000 miles on an old engine.
Also had a minor leak of power steering fluid from the steering rack tubing - but repaired at dealer.
That's it so far - knock on wood.

I lose about 1 quart of oil ever 3500 miles. Mine's an Auto. It's been consistent for about 100K miles like that

Biggest issues iwht my '06
Both front wheel bearings crapped out at 70K miles
3rd brake light around the same time.
Both front compression rods (under warranty..but i think the driver's side is going out again)
Engine drinks 1 qt per 3500 miles (it's an auto)

I have 94k on my '05 now and purchased with 18k so I'll chime in...
Overall, car has been reliable but has had issues.
-Rear axle click. One of the first annoyances I had. Minor, though. Repaired under a TSB.
-Passenger seat power motor switch failed.
-Driver's side seat track replaced (at least twice).
-Had original battery explode. I replaced it at night and saw the acid damage on my fender and wheel the following morning. That was an unfortunate and expensive fix.

-Compression rods replaced once. Installed rods were updated part, have been silent for many thousands of miles (over 40k).
-IPDM module replaced. This left me stranded. Very rare failure, most will never have it fail.
-Radio caused battery drain. Came to a lifeless car one day after leaving work.I know it was the radio cause the lights were off (always leave them on auto). Had radio replaced many times and eventually replaced with aftermarket.
- Camshaft sensor replaced. Almost left me stranded. Car would stall but would restart.
-A/C compressor became noisy but stil cooled 100%. Replacement cured noise.
-Couple airbag failures. Had passenger seat airbag replaced two weeks ago. Can't remember the other component.
Can't help on the spark plug/valve cover issue but I will remove them this weekend to inspect since my warranty expires next week.
Fortunately, most items above were covered under my extended warranty. Best investment I made with this car and paid for itself at least twice.
