How many miles should there be on a new G35x? or any new car for that matter? is up to a 100 miles acceptable?

There was a post about this previously, if you do a search I'm sure you will find it. It was a long thread ,check it out.

https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-coupe-v35-2003-07/24599-how-many-miles-you-g-when-you-picked-up.html

But I believe a brand new car normally had 6 miles (or 11kms) on it, unless it was used for a few test drives or a dealer drove it from another lot rather than ship it.
My new X had 11 km (6miles) on it when I got it. I had told the dealer I didn't want any extra miles on it.

I would think 6 miles would be the right amount and anything over that is movement around the dealership or test drives. I would not want to get a new car with 60 miles on it. The first few miles of a new car's life are the most important miles and the importance decreases as the miles increase til around 1200 miles which engineers say the car is ready to go full out. It isn't like at 1150 miles it is a no go and 1201 miles a big change happens, its just a gradual progession and with that logic the earlier miles have more significance.

I wouldn't accept anything over 5-10 miles...I got mine with 6 or something close to that...If it has more then 10 it was probably test driven, which in many cases is not something you want done to YOUR NEW car...Just my $0.02...

Question

I used the fact that mine had 180m on it to get an additional discount, and I certainly don't regret it. Just depends if it can work in your favor.

On the other hand, I did the same thing with a VW GTI and by the time I lemoned it it kind of became more obvious to me that someone had used those miles to drive the crap out of it to the point where everything including the engine was falling out (literally) ... although it could have been coincidence

I bought mine with 91 miles on the clock. It was a less than ideal circumstance but I traveled 300 miles to pick it up and wasn't about to leave without the car.

I've got 12.5k on her now and they've been trouble free miles so for me those 91 seem pretty inconsequential.

Re: the post that the first 100 miles are critical to the engine's future life. I agree up to a point. The engine is settling in but because of the way modern engines are built and then run at the factory, the potential for damage to the engine is greatly diminished. You'd be more likely to have problems because someone did something stupid that damaged the transmission, messed up the interior or the exterior finish while it sat on the lot.

Because most people take a responsible approach to driving cars during a test drive (or as employee loaners), I think the potential for getting burned is pretty low.

I've rationalized why it was okay for me to take it with just under 100 miles but I can also understand why this might not be okay for you.

I know a guy who bought one new that had 630 miles on it or something like that. Ironically I had test drove the car before he bought it.

One advantage is your warranty goes to 60,630 miles in that case

I wouldn't worry about it, but try and get a discount if the car has higher then usual milse (like higher than 40).

Mine had 20 miles, they had taken it to the tint shop, which was across town.

Originally, I was going to get a showroom car with 12 miles on it but when I was checking it out, still on the floor I found a one to two inch long, kinda deep scratch on the left rear panel so they turned around, redid my paperwork and gave me one with 8 miles on it.

I bought a G35x from a dealership that did not have the car so they got the car from another dealership but drove the car over from one dealer to the other.. they said that they do not truck the car unless it comes from the port!? and that for swapping cars with dealerships they drive the car? is this true? i would appreciate any advice!! the car will have about 50-60 miles on it now!!

I woudn't think they would drive it, I would *think* they would put it on a truck and send it over, that sounds odd.

I had 6 miles on mine it was dealer traded..... I would ask them if at all possible to put it on a truck, actually I would demand it.

Yes ,they will do that if they are trading cars with other dealerships. On my last car they were going to do that and it was quite a distance so I said no deal unless they shipped it, so they did.

My Sedan had about 15 klms, and my Coupe had about 10 klms on it when delovered.
It's possible to have much more tho due to vehicle transfer.

Yes, this is true. When I bought mine in San Diego, they had to do a dealer swap for the diamond graphite coupe that I wanted that was in Riverside. Sure enough, they drove it down, and I got the car with 105 miles on it. I was annoyed but the car is a-okay.
