Lost Key (chip only)
Lost Key (chip only)
Hey guys, quick question about my car. I have a 2005 Sedan. Today while riding my motorcycle, everything in my box fell off. Including my key ring with my car keys on it. I recovered them, but it looks like the chip from my Infiniti key is gone (along with my social security card, oh joy). It is the only chipped copy of the key I have, although I do have a copy made to unlock doors and such. The dealer says the only way I can get a reprogrammed key is to have my vehicle towed in. Is this the only option I have? Am I really looking at $400+ to get a new key made? Nearest dealer is about a 45 minute drive away. They said they can cut a key based on Vin ($129 parts, $179 service), but the only way to have it programmed is to have the vehicle brought in.
Thoughts?

Call a local locksmith, they should be able to help you out. Buy an OEM key. To give you an idea on price, I charge $75 to cut and program the key at my facility. Somewhere between 150 and 300 to come to the car, depending on how far I had to drive and time of day.
