I could smell the burnt smell better this way (coming out from the whell arch). Infiniti guys told me it was the plastic around the engine burning, since it is so new, they said that the plastic near the engine is not used to the heat and I dont know what other crap. They told me it would go away, and, well, it seams it has for the most part. I still can smell it a little.
I think its my clutch, but Im not 100% sure. I think that this smell started after I did a semi-burnout. I didnt do it for long, and I only did it 1nce. I dont know if this is to blame or not. All I know is that I have 3.6 more years of waranty. Anyone know if its the clutch? How can I find out?

I have less tha 2200 miles. This smell, I noticed when I had 1500 i think. Now, I smell it but very very little and only if I put my mind to it lol.
Good to hear im not the only one. I suppose, then, that this smell will leave.

Mine Smells Too...
My G has only 1000 miles on it and I noticed the same smell, rather acrid. It seems to be lessening now but maybe I'm just getting used to it. It smells like hot/burning hydraulic fluid.

The only way Infiniti rates on JD Powers is cause 1) the dealers try to make the experience good. 2) the questionaire is bullsXXt. IF THEY BOTHERED TO ASK CONSUMERS WHY THEY GOT RID OF THE PREVIOUS CAR, THEN, THE SURVEY WOULD MEAN SOMETHING. I really like my G but don't want to give Infiniti any more of my money.

The problem with the 350z and G35 were the transmissions were failing. I don't think there was any problems with the clutchs... its the syncros that were going bad...
This is the first i've heard of a clutch going out after only 16k miles... You either got a lemon or you can't drive a manual very good... Ask Infiniti how they determined it was clutch abuse... Did they remove the clutch to see if it was clutch abuse that cause the failure?
Not to rip on you or anything, but being this is the first time i've seen a clutch go out after only 16k miles, I would have to say you probably abused it. And If you did I wouldn't expect you to own up to it... Especially since your trying to get Infiniti to repair under warrenty...
I had a friend who had a 92 maxima when there were new and he would always pull his emergency break to slide out, eventally he pushed the transmission into the engine block and then took it to Nissan and was like "I don't know how this happened, must of been a deisgn defect in the car" lol thats when I learned people LIE like crazy to avoid paying for things they caused...
If it was a lemon clutch, then I don't know what to tell you other then to get a lawyer.

Well i got my car back today with my new clutch installed. I ended up paying $1300 for it. i am very dissapointed with how the whole thing was handled by infiniti. consumer affairs was rude and did absolutely nothing to help me. It would be one thing if i did not know how to drive a stick or drove the car hard or reckless but that is not the case I take great care of the car and the only miles on it are all from the highway so its not like im shifting through traffic all day. This whole thing has been a awful experience and i will NEVER buy another infiniti again and not cause of the car because overall i love the car but because of how i was treated by the people at consumer affairs.

Great to hear Im not alone at this one.
I wouldn't give up on this yet. Write Infiniti a letter describing the problems. Be sure to inform them that you are still within your warranty period and that you expect to be reimbursed in full for the charges you received from the dealer.
Remain professional when you write the letter, or have a lawyer draft the letter for you.
Unless you abused your car, you are well within your rights to have the powertrain parts replaced since you are only at 14k miles.
Good luck.
