clutch shot at 14k, dealer is trying to charge me 2 grand
last night i am driving home and all of a sudden my rpms start jumping all over the place and my car is not going any where so i take it to the dealer and they told me that my clutch and flywheel are completly shot with only 14 k on them and it will cost me 2 grand to get it fixed whats up with this has any one else had this problem i know how to drive a stick ive had onw for many many years and they are trying to tell me its my fault the clutch is distroyed
Well it would be pretty clear to tell if it's abuse because the clutch springs and flywheel will be blued from excessive heat. Do you race the car for fun or in competition or launch hard or shift hard a lot? If they're saying $2000, then I'm guessing your clutch AND flywheel need replacing. Mileage means absolutely nothing when it comes to clutches. Severe abuse or poor driving can kill a clutch in a matter of a few thousand miles, easily. Clutches, like tires, are considered wear and tear parts so you're most likely SOL.
This is another reason I passed on the 6 speed manual. The clutch does seem to weak as does the tranny itself. My 96 Maxima had the stock clutch with 113k miles and had over 160 1/4 mile passes on it and it showed absolutely no signs of slippage.

If they are trying to say it was your fault the clutch went out, they have to PROVE this the the case. If they cannot prove it's your fault they should replace the clutch under warranty.
i already talked to the service manager and infiniti and the people at infiniti were rude and and refused to send someone to come out and take a look at the car the service manager was ok but he said he cant do anything its up to infiniti today was very stressful and i am so pissed because i take such good care of that car i baby the hell out of it and for them to tell me its my fault, well its just driving me crazy
14k is ridiculous!
taking at face value that you take car of your cars (clutches) don't give-up on hounding Infiniti.
60k powertrain warranty has GOT to count for something.
Sheeit -- my BRAKES lasted longer than that!

30k on my 6spd Maxima and no issues.
I hear the 350z is defintely having more issue however.
Seems that you guys have more in common with that driveline than mine however.
Did I have a point here....???

Well infiniti hasnt done **** for me they were extremely rude and did not help in any way this whole thing is really making me think twice about ever buying another one. And this is the fourth infiniti i have owned but i dont think there will ever be a fifth i would bet that bmw dosent treat its customers like ****
This past December, I took my car to Infiniti. The thing is, everytime I parked and went out of the car, I could smell this weird burnt smell. It was sort of tire burning smell, but much more acidic. I dont know how to explain the semll, but it wasnt the tires. If I turned ON the engine and came out of the car, the air coming out from the engine would blow this smell better. I could smell the burnt smell better this way (coming out from the whell arch). Infiniti guys told me it was the plastic around the engine burning, since it is so new, they said that the plastic near the engine is not used to the heat and I dont know what other crap. They told me it would go away, and, well, it seams it has for the most part. I still can smell it a little.
I think its my clutch, but Im not 100% sure. I think that this smell started after I did a semi-burnout. I didnt do it for long, and I only did it 1nce. I dont know if this is to blame or not. All I know is that I have 3.6 more years of waranty. Anyone know if its the clutch? How can I find out?
