Droning Exhaust Note

Just starting noticinga more drone like exhaust note on my '05x. I have 125K on the clock. I don't see any holes or gaps anywhere.

Anyone have similar experiences?

Thanks,
George

More than likely you have a leak.

Rear muffler flange seems to be the biggest culprit, but check the two flex pipe connections as well. Have a buddy stuff an old t-shirt into the tailpipes which you check for leaks. Should help hear/see the puttering.

When my exhaust note started to drone more, this was the cause. I noticed it much earlier, but this is the point it got to before I fixed it

Same situation here, 2005 G35x, muffler rusted out at that rear flange and had to replace it

Check your gaskets. Tighten down the bolts... bring it on a lift and have some1 rev it while you look at all aspects of exhausts... do you feel any power loss??

Thank you all for your replies. I don't really notice a power loss, but then again I may have gotten used to the feeling by now.

I definitely have corrosion around the flange and I'm guessing that there is a leak there.

Got keep this baby alive, so I'll spend a few bucks to get this fixed.

If you let it get worse, you'll notice a loss in torque. If you look at mine, there was about a 3/8" gap around 1/2 of the diameter of the pipe. It's a pretty significant leak in my case.

Once i repaired it, I gained some low end torque back. Def made the car feel a little more responsive. It would definitely lead me to beleive that running mufflerless might make the car slower.

Most importantly...it's quiet!

Good news. Found a very reputable and very economical local exhaust shop that will do the repair. $75 in 30 minutes. Not too bad.

^ Did it work? Another place to look is the flex pipe - I've scraped apart several of those.

Got 'er done throught a local shop for $75 and 45 minutes of waiting. There was a pretty good separation almost half way arouund. He cut off the flange and welded in a new short piece of pipe.

She sounds better and seems to even perform better now.

Interesting as I sat and waited that an FX pulled up for the same repair. According to the exhaust guy, those seem to even be worse than the G's.

I bet the ground on the flange at that exact spot has something to do with it.

I def noticed an increase in torque once I hacked off the rotted flange and fixed the leak.
