So I was at the dealer today to do an oil change and by the end, they gave me a list of things that need to be done. I bought the car last year in November 108k on it.

So I need:

-new tires (I knew this coming)
-rotors
-brake pads
-realignment
-front compression rods w/ ball joint cone (bushing torn)
-rear sway bar bushing (worn, play)

Anyways, I spoke to the mechanic and he said they wouldn't do the realignment until I replaced the compression rods and since I need new tires, it will also need realignment.

My question here is, why won't they do the realignment for when I get new tires until I replace the compression rods?.

First, you don't need a realignment for new tires. Then if you are going to replace the compression rods or even just the bushings, you will need it realigned since you will be taking off parts of the front suspension. You can do a realignment before but it would be a total waste of money. No use of spending the cash til you get it all fixed up.

 

You can have A shop press out the bushings on the compression rods with OEM new bushings. You'll save yourself a lot of money.

 

I forgot to add it's a 2006 G35X.

Yeah, the mechanic was telling me that they replace everything and not just the bushings itself. I was quoted around $1200 for both of the front ones. So I will be shopping around and get quotes from other shops as well.

How important is it and how soon should I do this?. I do need new tires so it only makes sense to do everything at once but I'm also looking for a new job at the moment so if it can wait at least another month or two, I rather do it then and it's still winter here in Edmonton, lol.

Of course tires and brakes are going to effect safety, but sway bar end link and compression rods do not. They just give you annoying sounds when you drive.

 

If a compression rod fails on the highway....you would definitely have a bad day.

 

Welcome to Driver Homer! Having the stealership do any repairs on your G will put a major dent in your wallet! You didn't indicate where you're from so I can't help you find a independent shop where you can get the work needed, but that is what you need! Look, research for a shop in your area where alignment/brakes are there main job. No there's no reason to get the alignment until your repairs are completed, no reason to pay twice...Gary

 

Definitely look into the option of replacing just the bushings. I am getting a local shop to press the old ones out and new ones in on my 2005 G next week. Been meaning to have it done for some time. If it is simply the torn bushings, you do not need to change the rods. Save yourself at least a couple hundred dollars.

 

Part 54570-AC70A for 2WD, 54570-AC71A for AWD/4WD. I got mine for $35 each but that was a while back. I am seeing hem currently available for $21 each online.

 

Im going through this now.. I need new compression rod bushings, tires and alignment.. I was gonna make an appointment to get an alignment so I took it to my buddy to check the bushings cause I didn't wanna drive an hour to the place I was getting the alignment and need a critical part, sure enough I need compression rod bushings..

 

Wow $1200! I just had both lower control arms and compression rods done. Dealer ship aligned front and rear. I have a 05X with 90,000 Im glad I got a warranty with it when I bought it. Total cost $100 and Classic Nissan threw the warranty in to close the deal.

 

im having this issue with might be my compression bushing.(05 g35x) took it to my mechanic today he said everything seemed tight and that he cant pin point the mysterious rattle. I told him after hours and hours or research i believe it to the compression bushing. FML

 

I am just curious, what was the dealers price on all this?

 

from what i read i heard they do not replace just the bushings that they hustle u to replace the whole rod. i read one person saying 1200 for both sides, another person said 800 i think. bizarre

 

I had both lower control arms and both compression rods replaced 2 months ago. They aligned her front and rear. I have an 05X work done under warranty cost $100 with out warranty $2000. Im glad they gave me the warranty!
