I purchased a salvaged 04 g35x

This car drove fine all the way back from NJ, which was in february but now it keeps overheating and smoking. I brought it to the infiniti dealership in my area and they "flushed my system" for $300 bucks and the car was fine for about 3 weeks but then it started over heating again and now it's smoking as well. I had a couple of mechanics look at it andeach mechanic said something different. It could be a head gasket (I'm getting a syrup like smell and the smoking coming from the right side under the hood), water pump( there's a noise when I drive and the car has to run for atleast an hour before the heat gets even warm), and/or a sending unit sensor because my car goes from cold to hot in a matter of minutes without the car running for long. Can anyone out there help me or have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Sheila

Are you loosing coolant?

I can only guess but if the previous owner new there was a coolant leak he would top off the coolant and it will drive fine then start to heat up after it leaks out. Your dealership refilled everything and same thing happened 3 weeks later.

Then you have your mechanics saying the issue is something big so they can make a quick buck because they know its probably going to be an easy fix.

thats a lot of speculation haha

I know a lot of ppl don't like don't like going to the dealers but if you can make it there and pay the big bucks to get it fix I would do it. Did you check your coolant?

Yes I am losing coolant and I wouldn't mind bringing it there but the customer serivce really sucks. When i called back to confirmation that the car was dwfinitely worked on , the guy on the phone stated that they didnt do anything to my car but I have a receipt and that's why I'm apprehensive about bringing it back there. I had a diagnostic read and it said something about a sending unit. The car only has 85,000 miles and was in a front end collision. Idk what to do at this point

Ask other members in your area for a recommended non dealer mechanic that specialises in Infiniti/Nissan.

You'll have to get the car looked at. Hard to really diagnose over the net other than throwing out random arbitrary guesses. With a front end collision, it's also possible there is mechanical damage to the engine that was overlooked and is a recurring issue. Hard to actually see this without eyes on the engine

I'm betting you have a leak in the cooling system somewhere. Could be in any number of places although since the car was in a front end wreck it's most likely to be in the radiator. A competent mechanic would have done a pressure test of the cooling system with fluorescent dyes and UV lights rather than just flushing the system. This would either show you where the leak is or rule out a leak.

Find a competent non-dealer mechanic to take your car to.

Shelia, rather than taking your ride to a stealership that sucks try Nissan! I've found their mechanics are better trained and they charge 30% less than Infiniti. Finding a coolant leak isn't rocket science, you could have a radiator shop do the job if it's in the cooling system...they're the best at finding overheating issues!
