05 G35X Overheating.

05 G35X Overheating.

Sorry if this been posted. Im at work so searching forms is a bit hard.

05 G35x. 112,000miles. Other night i noticed my rad fan turning on, thought it was weird but i was close to home and just parked the car. I didnt look at temp guage so im not sure if the car ran hot or not.

Next morning went out for coffee and about 5mins noticed the fans turn on again and this time i looked at temp guage. It was climbing to Hot. Parked the car before it got all the way Hot.

My overflow tank was completly empty, but my rad was full. From what i can tell. Heat does come out vents when i turn it on.

I ordered a new Rad and thermostat. Is there anything else i should look into?

Edit: there is a leak somewhere. Put coolant in the overflow res and i dont visually see it leak but there is fluid on the ground

Do you see any coolant leaking? Feel the top and lower hoses while the car is running. Rent the block head test from AutoZone for 30 bucks. It checks to see if you have exhaust gases in your radiator. Check the oil and see if it looks like chocolate milk and look for oil in the coolant. Could possibly be the water pump if the fins are worn down, but I doubt that's the problem.

Yes, there is liquid on the ground. I checked the oil. Dip stick looks clean and oil still good.

How about diagnosing the problem before buying a bunch of parts, it could be any number of things besides the radiator or thermostat. Before you buy anything you should pressure test the radiator / cooling system.

Yea ur prob right, but i forgot to mention i did notice a crack on the radiator itself. It had alot of dried up antifreeze and in one corner it was still fresh. Sorry im at work and using a phone to write this.

Top off coolant in the overflow and check your radiator cap.

My coolant leak was at the thermostat housing. Bought one and did a flush and its all good. This was at 86k on my 05x.

A radiator leak is going to be bad for EVERYTHING since the system is under pressure. I think its like 20psi of pressure, any weak point will be a leak.

If your replacing the radiator, i would also replace upper and lower hoses, they only cost like $10-15 each.

Just to confirm your leak is in the area of where the radiator is right, not the back of the engine. We have some coolant lines and crossover pipes that could develop a leak.

yea, my leak is right under the radiator in between the radiator cap and overflow tank.

STATUS UPDATE:

changed out the rad and thermostat. Everything seems to be ok. system fully bled, put about 20miles and running like a champ.

if anyone interested i bought a Koyo rad OEM fitment $165, and OEM Nissan thermostat/gasket. $20.

Just curious was the radiator easy to pull out? Simple straight forward, unhook fan plugs, AT cooler lines radiator hoses and unbolt AC condensor off. Pull straight out.

Where was the Koyo rad found?

Good to know if i have to do mines.

yea everything was pretty simple. i did it without jacking up the car or taking the under-tray off.( would make plugging some connecters easier) rolled the car on some bricks to make room for a drain tub.

im from Jersey and there happens to be a Koyo warehouse like 20mins from me, but they dont sell to general public. called them up and they put me through one of there distributors that are also 20mins from me. got rad same day.
