Replacing OEM bushins with new OEM bushings on rear suspension mount
Replacing OEM bushins with new OEM bushings on rear suspension mount
2006 G35X
I need to remove the OEM bushing, and I intend to replace it with a new OEM-type bushing. This is the bushing mounted into the rear knuckle to which the rear shocks connect on their bottom end. HERE is the bushing.
Can a bushing like this be removed while the knuckle is still on the car with the "threaded bolt" method? I have seen others talk of removing this same bushing with the rental ball joint presses available from Auto Zone and others (these are essentially just a C-clamp). Here is a picture of the type of "threaded rod" setup I am asking about. Anyone have any experience with this? This bushing is only about 1.25" in diameter, and the car has mostly been driven in non-coastal Southern conditions. The rubber is completely destroyed after 178,000 miles.
Also, should I expect to be able to install the new bushing using this same method providing I clean the mating surfaces well, and possibly use dish soap or a powdered graphite lubricant?
