How are painted grilles holding up?

I am trying to decide between plasti dip or clear coat over black. Seeing both in person would be nice, but not likely going to happen before I do it. My thoughts are that paint and clear would look better.

I have my coupe grille plastidipped black for over 18 months and it still looks like the day I did it. I did about 5 coats, which was more than enough (I wanted to make sure it could hold up against weather/chips). It only costs about $5 for one aerosol can which is all you need. Paint will be more expensive. Plastidip as you know gives a matte finish while paint will be glossy. It's up to you whether you want matte or glossy. Personally I hated the shine of the chrome so I went with matte.

I don't think I'll be doing that. I'll either paint or dip myself. I want a matte finish, so I'd use matte clear over matte black. The dip looks good in pics, just not sure about up close and personal. Sounds like it lasts though, which is a plus.

Use paint and clear coat. Dip in my opinion looks cheap up close. I bought a can to see what the big deal was. It's alright for other projects where quality doesn't matter but I'd never use it on my vehicles.

+1 on Plastidip.

I had mine painted with black caliper paint. It chipped like crazy.
Sprayed it with Plastidip and it looks as good as it did the first day.

dip looks cheap up close if you don't do it right. If you spray evenly and wait properly between coats, it can look good. Mine doesn't look cheap by any means. I'll take a close up when I can.

That would be much appreciated. It looks fine in the above pic.

Yes it's flat black, (with matte clear coat if I recall), but the finish is superb. I don't think you can get anywhere close to that finish with plasti dip. Then again, I haven't seen it in person.
