g35 sedan first transmission fluid change

Hi i have a 2005 g35 sedan it has about 114k miles and i wanted to know if i should do a complete flush or the simple drain and fill...i heard if you do the full flush it will harm the transmission. To be honest i dont even think the car has even had its first transmission oil change. I look at the fluid is brownish and smells burnt i knew something was wrong gotta fix her up and i need your help.

Also is there a difference between matic j or matic s, or should i just stick to matic j. But mainly let me know if you think a flush would be better off or if a simple drain and fill would be safer thanks.

At the dealership I work at, we recommend a drain and fill every 30k and a flush every 60k. I would recommend doing a flush so the trans will run fresh clean new oil.

Im only a light duty, so I cant say for sure that if adding new fluid to a trans thats gone that long without service is detrimental, but logic tells me that you would be better off running new fluid.

Thats what I would recommend to you if you brought your vehicle into me. I can verify with a journey man this week if your concern is validated if you would like.

As for fluid, I cant say i know off the top of my head as I usually let our parts dept. handle that. But again, im sure i could find out. Just let me know.

Matic S is the replacement for Matic J, which was discontinued. If you're unsure of it's history, you'd probably be better off doing a drain and fill (4 quarts when you drain it at the plug on the pan), and then do another drain/fill in a few thousand miles.

You should do a full flush. I did a full flush at 66k miles from the dealer about 3 years ago. My oil was very dirty at the time. Should have done a drain and fill at 30k miles.
As for the oil, J-matic is what came the factory. J matic is non-synthetic and S-Matic is synthetic. I had a choice and went with J-Matic since S-Matic(synthetic) would have too much slip and you don't want that with most transmissions. They say J-Matic is discountinued but dealers still have it in their shops.

If it's been almost 100k miles without anything done to it.
Do a drain for sure.
There's been reports that doing a flush (Especially on higher mileage transmissions that havent had anything done to it yet) craps out the tranny.

So if you FLUSH it will clean most of this build up off and it will cause the transmission to slip a lot resulting in problems...just play it safe a drain and fill..drain a few quarts and fill with same amount of new fluid, drive for a few thousand miles and repeat until the liquid you see when draining is newish in color. Also don't forget to look for metal shavings and stuff when initially draining, this is a sign something more significant is happening to your transmission that needs to be dealt with
