dead spot, power stutter at 3800rpm 5at in manushift mode
Just as the title says, when I put the car in manual shift mode in my 2006 5at, in THIRD gear only at 3800rpm I get a hiccup.. a tiny drop in power and then it behaves.
it does not happen in 1st, 2nd, 4th.. and it ONLY happens in manual mode.
ideas ?
The car is tuned. and has colder plugs, and a oil catch can. before the light mods were added the issue was much MUCH worse and also pinged like crazy. I think it is a timing issue.. but not 100%.

-unhook battery
-do not plug unit
-take full housing out
-CRC Electronics cleaner
-let dry in hot engine bay
-put back in and drive ?
I sprayed the MAF plate pretty heavily, as well as the plug on the MAF and the plug on the car. I would also change air filters at this time, or clean your reusable.
Did the deed.
un-hooked battery negative , drained the system with brake pedal and ignition on for a few minutes
unscrewed the port and super gently removed the whole unit, (had to clip 1 cable retainer to get it out without bending the attached harness and plug)
sprayed the living crap out of it.
waited 2 hours
hooked back up
no issues with idle or needing a relearn, no smoke.
have not seen the bump yet. BUT since the fuel map and the tranny are both now relearning I do not think I can call it good for about another 4-5 days.
fingers crossed.

Update :
ok after 12 or so full duty runs, the dead spot still exists.
so now the new observation. it does happen in other gears. but not at the same rpm.
1st : can not feel it in 1st, under hard acceleration it burns through the gear to fast to 'feel it'
2nd : can feel it but it is a tiny blip compared to third, it occurs under 3800rpm at 3400rpm-ish
3rd : still occurs at 3800 rpm.. about 250ms of slight power loss.
4th : occurs at 4300ish rpm... but the impact of the blip is much smaller than 3rd
Summary
it does not occur in "D" in aggressive or normal mode
it does not occur in "manumatic" in normal driving.
It ONLY occurs in "manumatic", under harder acceleration.
At this point I am thinking cam sensor... and I think I am juts going to ignore it as much as it bugs me. until it throws a code I am not going to spend $ at the dealer swapping parts at random :P.

True true..well i cleaned the maf an it did nothing. I remember reading a guy sayin his brake booster was leaking air and that was his cause..tommorow im gonna pull out plug on cylinder 6 and afew an ill keep u updated
Hmm..I cleaned the MAF and changed the PCV and it fixed mine. I did them separately so I knew what did it, and it was the MAF cleaning. I did have a crack in the TB coupler that I fixed while putting it back together too tho. Unmetered air issue maybe?
When I had a similar problem it was from a bad tune/lack of re-tune after making modifications(happened twice). What modifications were done prior to and after tuning? Who tuned it? My engine did not ever ping like crazy though so there is something really wrong.
I would start with checking VTC solenoids and wiring, then check for vacuum leaks or anything else that would allow unmetered air into the system like post MAF leaks.
