Normally when I ask stupid questions, it's not this stupid.
But on the 03-06 sedans, what the frick is the parking light???

I've had the understanding that it's the small yellow light which double as a turn signal. But after doing some searching (Before Garyc rips on me for not searching), it just made me more confused thinking that it's not the case.

Assuming that I am correct that it's the same light that double as a turn signal, this brings up another question. If I were to replace it with a LED from diodedynamics... Would I get hyperflashing from it?

 

Turn the parking lights on. The two lights that light up are the side markets and the turn signal circle (on the 05-06 cars).

On the 03-04 cars, it's the side marker, and a small city light.

The turn signal on the 05+ cars is dual filament, so one filament is the parking lamp, and the other is the turn signal.

 

AHHHH I see now. This makes perfect sense. I would assume then replacing it with a LED wouldnt work too well since the relay won't play nice with it

 

Depends really. Some aftermarket LED's use resistance to match the original bulbs, and some don't. You'll just have to ask around and see what others are using.


When I see G35's in the wild with LED turns...they are blinking faster than normal.

 

I have leds in my city lights as well as my signals. now the left side itself chooses to hyper-blink. need to get another resistor i think. just for the 1 side sigh*

 

Do you have any pictures of it on at night?

Just throwing this out there... My right turn signal is blinking faster than normal..??? And NO lights are out/ need replaced. All lights working perfectly fine it just blinks rapidly like a turn signal light is out but that is not the case..??? Didn't feel like starting a new thread... Anyone have any thoughts/ideas..????

 

Is it a normal bulb or LED?

 

Turn signals are normal bulbs I believe... Then if I turn on my four ways it blinks normal, just when I use the right turn signal it will blink rapidly... Driving me crazy though..

 

with your LEDs you must add a resistor to each side so that it wouldn't hyper-blink. because you will go through bulbs a whole lot quicker

 

So what is the cause of the hyper blinking.?

 

The way I understand it ... the unit which actually creates the blink is looking for a certain amount of resistance on the circuit. It may even be designed to hyper-blink when that resistance is 1/2 what it should be - to alert you that one bulb is burnt.

But LEDs being more efficient require much less current. So 2 LED lamps probably appear to the controller as less resistance than one incandescent and it responds by going into hyperlink mode.

Adding resistors to the LEDs is an effort to make them appear to have similar resistance as an incandescent bulb. I would guess these resistors need to be fairly high wattage and may even throw off some heat?

 

^ could it possibly be a clock spring issue...? Cause right around the same time this happened my volume/seek controls went out on my steering wheel ... I really don't want to put resistors in..

 

If you have standard OEM halogen bulbs, resistance is not your issue.

Are you absolutely sure one of the bulbs is not blinking when you turn on the directional, or the hazards?

If the bulbs are in fact blinking, and they are bulbs and not LED's. then my next thought would be to replace the flasher module. However, I do not know where it is on the G35 or if they even have one.

I'd defer to the FSM to which ifi get a few mins later I'll take a peek

 

I just looked at my FSM (2006 sedanX) and it looks like all the flashing is controlled through the BCM. No flasher module indicated.
