How to go about lowering my 05 X
How much driving through the snow do you plan on doing?
These cars are pretty good in the snow with AWD. but lowering won't help. I drove though a ton of deep snow with mine and the only time I had problems are when ground clearance was an issue. I got hung up trying to break through a small "plow dam" at the end of the driveway and had to break out the shovel.
Main reason I never lowered my car was because I did so much driving in the snow.

well i used to drive a mustang in the snow so I'm not worried about the snow i don't care if my car is bad in the snow. i want to lower my car enough just so the wheel gap is gone. I'm planning on getting with 19 or 20 inch wheels on my car soon and i don't think that wheels will look good if the car isn't lowered a little bit to get the wheel gap gone, just my opinion. I still have no idea why you shouldn't lower an AWD car but i trust that these guys know what they are talking about so now I'm kinda scared to lower my car even a little bit. i literally just want that wheel gap gone when i have 19 or 20 inch wheels on the car.

It won't take much to fill the wheel gap, I think you'll be happy with a mild drop, coilovers or springs will work. Camber kit is necessary in rear, compression rod bushings, the rear should be ok bushing wise. You're going to chew through tires. I wouldn't want to chew through 20" tires, screw that!!!
