automatic transmission fluid????
I highly suggest a drain and fill. A flush can cause problems. Have a mechanic do the drain and fill if you dont want to do it yourself. Honestly, it takes 15 minutes. No harder than changing your engine oil.
If anything I think doing a drain/fill is easier than an oil change.
No filter to swap out or undershield to remove
Just make sure you have a funnel that will fit the dipstick tube for the trans

Fineeeee... I'll drain/fill it. Do I drain the whole thing or only 3 quarts every time I do an oil change?
You just pull the transmission plug out and let it drain. BUT, make sure you put it in something you can measure first and do it when it's COLD. Then fill in the same amount you took out.

After you get it done, you'll agree that it's pretty easy.
I forget the size of the trans pan plug. I think it's either 17mm or 19mm.
You'll need a 10mm on an extension to reach the bolt holding the dipstick tube in.
When i do it, I just do a drain and fill from the drain plug. I get 4 quarts out.
If you want to get another 1.5 quarts out, you can disconnect the transmission cooler hose return line and let it drain into a bucket. I always do this on top of draining it from the drain plug.

I did this for my first round of drain and fill. Then I found their synthetic stuff and i'm using that now.
Castrol TRANSMAX™ FULL SYNTHETIC MULTI-VEHICLE
and here's the datasheet showing that it is spec'ed for JASO 1A

how has this stuff been for you? Just got Castro’s transmax in my 07 g35x with 225,000km

Transmissions generate lots of heat. Heat will break down the oil's ability to lubricate properly and then your clutch packs will wear down and lose material. When your clutch packs lose material they start slipping and don't become effective at transferring the work from the engine to the wheels.
The danger comes when you don't change fluid regularly. The clutch material will actually become suspended in the fluid and that will keep the transmission from slipping. So, because the suspended clutch material is whats keeping the transmission working properly when you replace the fluid with new clean fluid, the transmission is now slipping and shitty. This is what causes the myth of transmission fluid changes break your transmission.
Flushes take this a step further and replace ALL the fluid but it also usually puts some pressure in the system, or detergents or reverses the flow, so this will dislodge the material and it will now go into other areas of your transmission and make things worse. Generally a flush with a machine using detergents isn't advised. I'm pretty sure a Nissan transmission flush doesn't have any detergents though, just fluid.
so after all that...regularly changing your fluid is recommended, just like motor oil changes. However if the fluid has never been changed and it's a high mileage car, the transmission may be barely holding itself together.

Transmission fluid drain/fill interval is 30k miles, neglect at your own peril. You will never cause damage to the transmission by doing a drain/fill regardless of whatever myths you may have heard, no matter what old-wives-tales have perpetrated the industry, no matter what your grandfather may have claimed. It's literally making the same claim that "you shouldn't change your engine oil" or "you shouldn't change your differential fluid" etc. It makes absolutely no sense that people still believe this lie.
It's strongly recommended to use the OEM Nissan Matic-J or Matic-S because of the specific friction modifiers. Aftermarket fluids use different friction modifiers which can cause a change in the way the transmission shifts.

I have used the Idemitsu Type-J without any issues to date. Seems to perform/shift identically to Matic-J in my experience. I tend to avoid the "one size fits all" fluids, I don't trust them.
