Future performance mods for my 2004 g35x

Hello, so currently my plan for future performance mods is first start off with a kinetix plenum and a CAI( 250 ish and 280 ish), can't remember the exact one but on Amazon it was the only one where people where reporting substantial improvements as far as intakes go, that would go without a tune and then when I would be able to scrape together more money I would go with kinetix(I believe) high flow cats for 372 and then a tune for lets just say 550. Problem is the AWD, would I have to find a certain place that can tune AWD vehicles or?? Also what are he best options when it comes to exhaust, it seems like all the aftermarket exhaust options are for the 2 door g35 and 350z. Any reasonable suggestions as far as exhaust goes for my car? Also will the plenum and cool air intake have any huge downsides without a tune? I just don't think it would be worth it before I got the high flow cats, also any other suggestions would he great, and for the most part keeping a pretty slim budget too.

UPDATE: is seems as though it would be better to do a 2006 air box swap and z tube and k&n filter rather than a CAI, any thoughts on this? and what about the motordyne mrev2? any word on that?

I think you are on the right track. The 2006 air box with Z tube and K&N filter seems to be the best upgrade and mostly likely a cheaper one.

The MREV2 is designed for the revup engine found in the 2005-2006 6mt cars. While it will provide some improvement, the general opinion is that it is not worth it for a non-revup engine. A thermal spacer should be all you need.

Thanks, I was unaware that the mrev2 really only helped with the revup engines, kinda glad, the price tag scared me a little bit for a single mod. But yeah any suggestions on the exhaust? Is there any affect of using the 350z y pipe? Will it fit? Also what else can I do as far as exhaust goes? I'm not really looking to be loud, more of to sound good, and obviously power gains. Or is it just not worth it?

The common upgrade is the HR Y-pipe which is commonly found on the 2007-2008 350Z. It can also be found on the same year G35 but that one is slightly different. I have one on my car and can verify that you do feel an improvement in acceleration and it brings out the exhaust note a little more. They are both direct bolt-in replacements that fit perfectly.

Since you have an 04 sedan you could also upgrade to a coupe mid-pipe to help make the exhaust a little louder. You can also use the mid-pipe from an 2005-2006 sedan since it is smaller than on the 2004.

Would the mid pipe affect performance at all, or would it be just sound?

I think they just help to bring out the beautiful noise from the VQ.

Tbh I wouldn't waste money on that.
The Kinetix HFC's are nice, but get a Blox 5/16 or 5/8 thermal spacer and don't waste money on the plenum.
It makes less power than a spacer.
If you want to make a plenum that makes power, there are some DIY things to do in order to make one that makes real gains on top of a plenum.
For an intake you want a Z-Tube and a Stillin "Popcharger", that is the best intake for the car, because unlike others it doesn't eat up tons of heat soak from the engine bay, while still making gains especially @ 45+mph.

As far as an exhaust.... well I just decided to finally switch away from the stock exhaust since I seem to have reached its power limit (~250WHP) but I am actually doing a custom exhaust (Dynomax VT) since these cars come with a custom Dynomax VT from the factory. This way I can make the car True-Dual with alot more power available up top while hopefully still keeping the stockish sound.

MRev2 can help DE motors too, but once again if you search around... there are DIY things you can do to your DE manifold to make some decent gains out of it.
