Didn't you notice the vehicle braking on long downgrades when using cruise control?

I get excellent mileage on round trips between NJ and Florida.
Short trips while in Florida not so much
Not true. Cruise control helps in steady speed at highway to make your fuel consumption to be more economical. 30-35 mpg is very possible in flat surface, without hills. By the way cruise control helps to increase your mpg. Proper oil and tires. Michelin tires are increasing your mpg, making it more eco.

BTW using a higher octane only empties your wallet.
