G35x sedan: Anyone repair broken muffler with band clamp?

Hi Guys, I have a 2006 G35 four door. My muffler has rusted completely separate from the mid pipe right at the connection/clamping (see attached picture). All I want to do is crawl under and use something like a
to reconnect. Has anyone tried this? One big question I have if you were successful is how did you clear off the old saddle clamping?

Any tips on success and failure appreciated. I went to a reputable muffler shop that quoted $775 to replace the mid pipe and muffler. I don't think that is really what is needed here to solve this. Cheers.

You can get an after market exhaust for less than that.

Here is what seems to be an OEM level complete replacement for $359.

I had this happen to me earlier this year. Cheapest solution is just go to a exhaust shop and have them weld the two pieces together with a small coupler. Cost about $40 total

I did the same on my 05 G35x. I went to my muffler shop, and they weld a piece of pipe in between it, to connect both pieces. Cost me like $80; but it's fine now.

Never repaired a muffler like that! I did use wire hangers to hold up my tail pipes on my first car when I was 15! Thank God, muffler shops that can do the job right without all the Mickey Mouse b.S.!

My son's Camry was similar to that, the shop said they couldn't fix it without replacing most of the exhaust and the muffler since everything was rusted out.
