Dented camshaft position sensor?

Pulled out my old camshaft position sensor (bank 2) after pulling the p0345 code.

Replaced the old with a new OEM one from Infiniti (a new design, the shaft is metal and has different measurements).

Started the car up and it had a long hard start with the slip, vdc and see lights on. Figured it take the sensor out and check if anything was blatantly wrong with how I installed it...and turns out it was dented??? This 100% happened while it was in the engine.

My question is what the hell happened to it?? The new sensor is a bit wider than the old one and the dent is literally right where the new sensor gets a bit thicker...it's like the sensor is too thick for the cam to pass? This is the part they gave me and it matches everything I've found online.

What exactly is going on here? Why doesn't seem like the new sensor doesn't fit? Even the bolt that locks it in wouldnt lock in, I was able to continually "tighten" it past where I was able to tighten the old sensor.

Please, input here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I had both Nissan revised cam sensors on my desk brand new in the bag and measured them. Even if you swapped them from side to side it shouldn't contact the cam since they are the exact same length. I have no idea why one would get dented without dropping one.
