Noobie G35x owner with ton a of questions
Hello all,
I have not recently, but purchased a G35x out of a junkyard. I've been doing this for the past 5 years, each spring buy a car out of the junkyard for cheap, fix it up to make a decent winter beater, then off load it and make a few grand off of it.
I found a 2004 G35x sedan out at this junkyard overall good condition California car, considering I'm 70 miles from the Canadian border. I looked on the inside tons of crap from someone moving cross country, clothes, books, you name it. I found out it was all wheel drive and for winter driving this would be perfect. I grabbed a wrench barred the engine over, and 400 dollars later I had a G35X.
Well apparently the car was abandoned in a storage place, so there was no title or keys. I knew how to get a duplicate, but wanted to find out if it ran. Digging through this guys stuff, I found the original title signed as if he sold it to someone, and a key fob. I went to the DMV with this explained the situation. They said who did you buy it from I said the junkyard, they transferred it into his name, then sold it to me for 400 bucks, and now I have a clean title.
The problem was not having any keys. I went to my local Nissan dealer, they nicely cut a key for the car since I had the title with vin in hand for free.(non-transponder) They quoted me 350 for 1 key and to program it. I called around town and they all were around the same price as the dealer 30 or 40 dollars cheaper. With the door key I was able to get it to crank and test all the electronics. It had 108,000 miles on the car, no codes stored or thrown, which honestly without having a battery I wasn't surprised. The passenger side seat has the weird goes forward but not rearward, messing with the switch ends up getting it to work.
Mice had moved into the car, I was lucky they decided to munch on the clothes and papers inside of any of the wiring. With temps dipping to 40 below. I recently just picked the last mouse body out of the car. But they ruined the interior with the seats/head liner smelling like trash.
I had left the car sit for a while at the junkyard since I had no room to work on it, and my 73' Cuda was taking up most of my time and money.
Recently I was surfing Facebook market place and picked up a 2006 G35x for 350 with a blown motor, just waiting til next weekend to pick it up. I figured with them being in the same gen platform the harnesses wouId be identical. Swapping out the computer and ignition lock would get me in running condition in theory.
My question is, is it even possible to swap out the ignition switch like I had thought. Could I swap over the seats as well. I would also like to swap out the dash. The donor car has 225,000 on it, and wouldn't make sense to swap the motor into the 2006.
Forgive me for my incompetence beforehand. I'll be picking up a FSM also.

There is a bunch of wiring differences between the 06' and 04'. They have different ECU and BCM's. You would have to basically move engine and cabin harness over and the dash with accessories. There would still be some custom wiring to do if you don't want to move the whole harness all the way to the trunk. I would just keep it simple and fix the 04' problems without a complete overhaul. If you want your 04' setup reprogrammed ECM/BCM and new keys I can get you fixed up just PM me and I'll get you details.
Pretty much none of the major electronics or general components can swap directly between those years without a ton of hassle. You should find another 03 or 04 of the same trim if possible if you want to go this rout. . 05 and on were different in a lot of ways.
I know people that swap in G35 coupe seats into sedans have to cut and splice the harnesses, also the colors do NOT match up so it makes it even more difficult. Your life would be a lot easier to find a 2003-2004 interior and swap in, that would be "plug and play" and much easier for you.
2003-2004, vs. 2005-2006 sedans have a fair amount of differences.
