G35 vs. maxima

I was comparing a manual Maxima to an auto G35 to show that it is not equal on the dyno and performance like you stated. I'm giving the Maxima the advantage of the manual and yet it still is not faster than the auto G35. So, comparing auto to auto like you want, the difference is even BIGGER in favor of the G35. I don't have anything against the Maxima. I actually like it too but it is not as fast as the G35.

The big caveat is the "all things being equal" statement. For example, Honda makes terrible automatic transmission and their parasitic loss can equal +20%. The G35 has a much better tranny so its loss is around 18%. Rarely are all things equal but that driveshaft does cause extra loss to the wheels (that is why the Z has a carbon driveshaft to reduce loss).

I have a special place in my heart for Maximas because I owned a 96 for 6 years, but the love stops in 2003. The 6th gen 2004+ Maximas are nasty overweight pigs. They aren't terribly slow seeing that one guy is running 14.2s@96mph in a BONESTOCK 04 SE automatic. There are a few others with 04+'s doing 14.3-14.5@97mph+ in stock to nearly stock form. The 265hp 6speeds are putting down about 215-220whp and 225wtq. Good numbers, but the car does weigh close to 3500lbs though.
The Maximas you shouldn't sleep on are the 95-03s. It's terribly easy is go mid 13s with a 95-97 Maxima with just an ECU, a JDM variable intake manifold, Y-pipe, modified airbox, and slicks. Basically $1800 in bolt-on parts, and I ran 14.3 at almost 100mph in my 96 on street tires and at 1100' above sea level. Stock the car did 15.3@91mph. I went from 160whp to 205whp. I can only hope to make those types of gains in my G35. The 4th gen (95-99) chassis is superlight (2900-3000lbs) therefore it's got great power to weight. Now guys are swapping 3.5s into the 4th gens. These cars will easily run in the 12s on drag tires because getting 235-245whp is a no brainer. One 5th gen owner (3.5 02 SE 6 speed, 260whp) has already run 12.8@108mph with bolt-ons, deeper gear, slicks, no passenger seats, and a 12lb battery. Raceweight with driver was 3100lbs. A handful of other 02-03s are in the mid 13 to high 13s on street tires. The quicker turbo Maximas are in the 11.5@118mph-11.9@124mph while most are in the 12s. Turbo kits are easy installs on these cars and the motor will happily take 400whp with no internal work what so ever. It's as if 3.0 VQ was made for boost.
Maximas are easy to go fast, but making it handle, brake, and ride well is a different story. The McPherson strut setup in the front and torsion beam rear axle are great for packaging and weight reduction, but you can only push the suspension so far. The car starts out with limited wheel travel for stock and lowering greatly reduces ride quality. I had H&Rs, Koni yellows, and subframe connectors on my 96 and the car handled and rode quite nicely, but it can't compare to my 03 G35. Same goes for the brakes. No comparsion. Both cars would probably generate similiar handling and braking numbers, but the G would do it in a far more controlled manner. That goes a long way. Don't get me started about the advantages of RWD
Me choosing the G35 was a natural progression and the Maxima crowd as a whole agrees that the 6th gen Maxima should have been the G35 sedan. Only a select few of the avid Maxima owners like the 6th Maxima. My G35 is far more refined and comfortable than my Maxima ever was, but the it should be seeing that it's a 7 year newer car. I hope my G35 is as bulletproof as my Maxima was. 160 1/4 mile passes with 3000-4500rpm launches on the stock 113K mile clutch. Never slipped once.

So who's the one got handed to them by a Max? I noticed the last few times I was driving I see Max (04/05's) coming up from behind. Not sure what their intentions are but I never pay attention to them. It's the little bro Nissan and I can care less. I don't even look over when they edge up.
That other day I was at a light and there's this mustang 5.0 (early 90's) and was showing off (the typical stick...rolling down on the hill and then gas it and let it roll back). I missed that sooooooooooooooooooooooo much. Damn Infiniti they better come out with a 06 g35x stick so I can trade it. Anyway, when it turn green I flew (awd is quite fast during launch) and the dumb mustang was still spinning his tires...then I slow down and he speed up really quite and go to my left and then cut back to my right (haha...at that point I was even racing with him) but I guess he gotta save his face...hehe

Car-Stats.com Report for 2003 Infiniti G35 Sedan
Obtained from C&D May, 2002
0-60: 6.2
Transmission: Automatic
1/4 Mile: 14.9

Both are close to one another. However, at the end of the day, a Max is a Max and a G is a G. I honestly wouldn't even shop these 2 cars together.

Maximas and Altimas are not putting down 245tq stock! And more important to me is the actual curve.
