its just the boost pushing the RPM so quickly that the computer is too slow to respond to the shifting. thats why the NA legacy responded so much better with the shifting as the engine dosnt go that fast.

i find it really hard to drive these large single turbo subarus with 5AT

Frankly, if I were in the market for an AWD car/small suv, Subaru is about the only make I would consider. Sorry G-35x drivers, but I would have saved the dough and purchased either a Legacy sedan or an Outback. Just my opinion.

YUK....then you have to drive a Subaru.

The 2003 always starts
out in fourth gear, does not downshift at a stop and does not hold the
selected gear.
Yes the 05 loaner was nice but I am used to shifting down myself by now anyway so I was saying to myself that I can live without the 05 and the extra weight.

The tranny IS actually downshifting but the indicator is just showing you the highest gear selection. It sucks but if you do it yourself you get used to it. When I drive an 05 or my fiance's car I forget to upshift sometimes and overrev. At this point I sort of enjoy the fact that if I don't manually shift down to 1, then it will shift up for me from a stop without me letting the engine rev to 6000 before I remember to shift.
