Power Steering Issue - ABS/Slip/VDC OFF lights & new noise
I thought my fluid must need to be flushed. I took it in and had the power fluids flushed and refilled. But my power steering still doesn’t feel right. It didn’t seem to make any difference. Every once in a while the slip, VDC off and ABS lights come on. Today while driving, it started making a strange sound that sounded like it was coming from the dash or steering column. When I arrived home, I turned off the car and the sound didn’t stop. I couldn’t hear it outside the car but heard it very loudly inside the car. Eventually it stopped. I had my air conditioning completely off at the time. My friend who is a mechanic thinks it could be the power steering pump. But unfortunately he is deaf and cannot hear the noise. I’m hoping someone here can either confirm or give us another idea of what it may be. Really hoping to avoid having to take it to a dealer. Any thoughts?
Get the vehicle up on jackstands and start looking for worn components. If it's getting hard to turn there is a u-joint on the steering shaft that fails eventually. Might be your R&P. If engine rpms drop when turning the wheel the street Ng pressure sensor might have failed.
Popping sounds might be the inner/outer tie rod ends.
Lots of moving parts, get your hands and eyes on them and see what's loose and failing.

+1 Get a good look around
Check all the power steering lines, look for leaks and/or kinks in the hoses. One other thing to try is bleeding the pump. I'm not familiar with the pumps on these cars, but I know some Japanese cars use a pump design that has veins. Its important to get all the air out of the pump and 'prime' it with fluid.

It did it again today. Here is a video of the noise. It stays on, even when the car is turned off. I have little knowledge of mechanical things, just trying to figure it out so my mechanic can replace it. The silver box thing was hot to the touch. And the whole thing was vibrating. Anyone have a thought? Thank you for any help!

Yeah there is an ABS relay right next to it that's stuck in the closed position. Whack it with something solid (not hard enough to break plastic) and you should get the relay to open back up.
When you first drive the vehicle, when you first hit 10mph the ABS does a self-test, with the driver window down you can hear a sort of "grinding" sound for about 1 full second as the relay pulses the ABS motor. Anytime the ABS system is triggered it also turns that ABS motor on, you can see it connected directly to the brake line valve block.
If you CANNOT get the relay to unstick then you need to disconnect your battery, temporarily you can also unplug the relay so you can drive the vehicle, if you leave that motor running it will quickly burn out and it's expensive to replace.
Here's another thread where I gave more info about it, post #3 has a picture of me pointing at the relay, post #20 has a list of vehicles that use the same relay so you can grab one from a pick-n-pull instead of paying $250 for a new one.
