2006 G35x issues

Hey friends,

Just replaced the Battery on my 2006 g35x sedan and now have a new issue..my key won’t turn at all in the ignition!! I’ve tried moving the steering wheel around while trying to start the car, I made sure the car was firmly placed in P, tried the anti lock to put it back into park, disconnected the battery and cleaned out the battery and cables, left it unplugged for a bit and reconnected it to see if that was it but nothing.

The old battery was allowing me to turn the key it just wouldn’t start the car up and my dashboard lights would flicker followed by a rapid click, click, click. Now I can’t even get the key to turn. The only lights I see are the anti theft blinking in red and my hazards come on. Besides that nothing else will come on. I don’t even see a red or green key light flash on the dashboard that usually comes on when you insert the key.

The key I have been using is the tiny key that comes out of the FOB. Back when my sister was using my car when I was in college she lost the FOB and and had to get a new key programmed from the Infiniti dealer and just got the tiny valet key. (She didn’t wanna pay for the whole thing) Could it be that the car isnt reading this key? Ive disconnected the battery before to reset the car but that was only for a short period and it read the key just fine. This time it was overnight without the battery because I had it charging. I checked the new battery and the voltage checked out ok. Any ideas on what it could be??

With the 2006 iKey system you have the first iteration of it that still requires a manual turning of the lock cylinder even though it doesn't require the key to be slotted. What you have is probably not a "valet key" it's just the end of the fob, there is a physical KEY stored inside the fob.

Pretty sure you wiped the BCM key data, have the vehicle towed to Nissan to get it reprogrammed (you will need an actual fob as well so buy one, make sure it's the CORRECT one). Or call around to reputable local locksmiths and see who can program Nissan cars.

The big indicator that this is the issue is that anti-theft light.

There are a few fuses that could blow out and cause NATS issues, check everything in the IPDM (behind battery) and Fuse Block J/B (left side foot well).

EDIT: It probably just needs reprogrammed though.
