Help me decide on a sedan exhaust

I asked in the Mods-Exhaust forum, but I only got 40 something views and no responses over the course of like 3 days.. so I'm going to ask here..

I have the choice between getting:

1. HKS Sport Exhaust + Gruppe S Y-Pipe
or
2. Fujitsubo cat-back exhaust

Price wise, both options are basically the same.. the criteria I'm trying to base my decision on are:

1. Exhaust volume
I've read here that the Fuji exhaust passes the GF/wife test.. which is important.. I dont want anything too loud and definitely dont want any droning at highway speeds.. the HKS Sport exhaust is relatively unknown.. it doesnt show up in the HKS catalog or on the website.. the only way I found out of its existance was in the Private Classified forum here.. then I asked a friend make some calls to HKS.. I have since seen a few listings on eBay, although they don't show the actual exhaust, just the box (??).. in any case, I think HKS exhausts are generally on the quiet side, with the exception of a few models or defective exhausts (like the one I have on my RX7, but thats another story)

2. Performance
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I believe the HKS cat-back exhaust combined with the y-pipe will give the same, or better, performance as the Fujitsubo cat-back alone.. I don't have any evidence to support my belief, but for one thing.. I do believe HKS makes a decent product.. exhaust to exhaust, I'm sure the Fuji will outperform the HKS.. but the Gruppe S y-pipe should make up for that, I'm guessing..

3. Appearance
The Fuji exhaust is a decent looking exhaust.. and from what I can tell, its ALL polished stainless steel.. the HKS one that I saw had the characteristic HKS painted mid-pipe.. the muffler can was polished stainless with rounded edges.. but where I really think the HKS looks better is at the tip.. the HKS has a rolled tip, whereas the Fuji has an unrolled tip (like someone just chopped off a piece of pipe and put it on the end of the muffler).. the Fuji might also have a larger diameter tip..

I'm leaning towards the HKS + Y-Pipe because I think it will offer acceptable performance and not be too loud.. the Fuji exhaust sounds good (heard the video clip).. and yes, if I really wanted more performance, I could add the Gruppe S Y-Pipe at a later date.. but isnt it a little crazy to spend $1000+ just on exhaust?

I have to make my decision soon.. so I'm interested in hearing what you guys have to think.. or is there any other exhaust system I should consider around $700? thanks

Here's a pic of a HKS Sport Exhaust on some other car.. I just did a search in Google and it looks like a few people are carrying it now.. Overboost lists it with 65mm exhaust piping diameter, 83mm tip diameter.. couldnt find a good pic of the Fuji sedan exhaust or specs..

You would probably have better luck using the serach option on this board for those exhausts, as they have been talked about a lot in the past...

best of luck....

Well, I found a lot of specific information regarding the Fujitsubo exhaust, but like I said in my original post, I couldnt find anything with regards to the HKS Sport Exhaust much less the HKS+Gruppe S Y-Pipe versus the Fuji exhaust directly.. thanks anyway

Borla. True-dual. Why replace one set of moderately-restrictive pipes with another?

Flame away, Ed.

the HKS sport exhaust does not look like that. its the wrong picture. the HKS muffler for the sedan has twin tipped like the stock exhaust but the whole muffler has gloss stainless steel finish i believe. i personally have a UT y-pipe and the HKS muffler and the sound of it is really nice, very deep but not loud or obnoxious. i cannot comment on the Fuji catback because i've never seen it in person or heard it. powerwise - i can't really feel a different with my HKS + ypipe combo. the only way to really tell if there is any power gains is through an actual dyno since i dont think i can feel small hp gain. if you want to get a y-pipe u should look into an inlet to match the openings of the midpipe and y-pipe.

Yeah, I am certain that Matters is right with the pic of the HKS. Dude, go with the HKS mainly because it sounds nicer and looks more classy. I don't like the single coffee can look of the Fuji, plus the sound imo is nicer stock than Fuji.

I went with the Greddy Evo-2 and it is just plain awesome!! Not too loud but gives the car a good sound...not ricey at all. Replaces the stock mid pipe and rear section. Love it

Matters, damn.. I didn't know that the HKS one looks like THAT.. there was a member here selling what I think was a prototype HKS muffler for the G35 sedan with the single tip so I just assumed thats what it was.. the HKS muffler looks real nice.. thanks for clearing that up and a big thanks for the pics.. I probably will go with the HKS muffler and y-pipe combo.. I don't mind the single big tip that much, like on the Fuji, but I'd prefer the dual tips for the classier look, like G-Pimp said..

GeoBau.. I didnt really consider the Borla because I've heard its kind of loud.. although loudness is highly subjective, I just think the HKS still would be much quieter (my main criteria).. thanks

Thanks for the advice guys

You guys with the Fujitsubo exhaust, would you ever get the y-pipe to go along with the cat-back portion? Or does anyone have the Fuji with an aftermarket y-pipe? Hows the sound? Any noticable change in performance?

I should be getting my exhaust next week, so I'll post pics when I do
