Engine rebuild valve guides and valve seats?
Engine rebuild valve guides and valve seats?
Hi so I'm currently in process of rebuilding my old motor. Should i worry too much about the valve seats and guides? I'd prefer to not have to do the hot oil bath and dry ice scenario. I am replacing the valve seals. Its going to just be a stock rebuild so I'm reusing the old pistons and rods. New bearings and such.
thanks for any insight.

Take them down to a machine shop that has a head test deck so they can give you an accurate measurement of how much wear is actually on the guides, how well they are actually sealing.
Depending on the conditions I would expect a stock set of heads that was driven moderately to make it to 300k miles. Harsh use, probably 200k. Any boost even driven moderately less than 200k.
How many are on them right now?
