Another “Did the backfire trick” thread
Hey all. Been lurking for a bit but I just did an oopsie. I was curious about the effects of the backfire trick where you turn the ignition off while it’s running, then back on. The method requires you do this a few times, but I tried once and it seemed to make slightly louder pops (I have a muffler delete). They weren’t extremely loud or anything and it was only one per rev. Anyway- I revved it a few times for 30-45 sec total. But now after looking into it more, tons of people say it’s a terrible idea. The car starts fine, sounds fine, makes no extra noises, and accelerates fine, but I’m worried that I screwed up. Is this a case of “you’re off the hook but I hope you learned your lesson”? Should I compression test it? I learned my lesson, though, I’m gonna get an UPREV tune, since I’m local to R/T Tuning, for real pops.
update: just got in and started it. Revs to about 2500 still result in pops (50% as loud), so honestly I’m thinking that it did nothing and it’s just the muffler delete. The car has been off for an hour prior to this so I’m guessing the excess fuel has been returned.
