Adding nav to my non nav g35 sedan.
Adding nav to my non nav g35 sedan.
I have a 2006 g35 sedan rwd 5 speed originally non nav car but I got the nav system parts and made my own harness and system works but:
cluster data lines seem to be dead (didn’t check if cluster has them 3 pins on the board)
I did add the 3 pins (bus+, bus- and shield) into the plug and connected it to the cluster.
the nav unit does have a “flash rom error in control unit” so I’ll be looking for another one without the error I hope.
I connected everything wire by wire to the locations instructed in the factory workshop manual using oem fuses and routed the new harness with the oem harness so it looks nice.
so far I noticed the fuel economy screen is blank and I don’t get a notification on nav screen if I’m driving and open the drivers door this is why I’m guessing the cluster isn’t sending data to the nav unit unless the nav unit has an issue because I’m getting the flash rom error in diagnostic screen and diagnostic does not even run because of the error.
any info on this would be great.
ps maybe Infiniti needs to reflash the cluster to let it know nav is installed to enable the 2 data bus wires but I’m only guessing
all system mods seem to work great but the nav is giving me a hard time.
I do not have consult 3 plus but have a Autel with maxiflash but haven’t went all out of the cluster yet.
curreny electrical mods are:
made all 4 windows AUTO, car came with just front auto.
Added auto headlights
replaced stereo to aftermarket (alpine head unit, Audison amp with dsp, component front and rear speakers (cut out holes for tweeters in rear door panels), 2x 12” subs in trunk.
swapped interior from a g35x with auto seat positioned and electric steering column.
can’t remember what else I missed.
oh in the manual it does give an error that the cluster isn’t communicating with nav unit but I don’t get that far so I’ll start with replacing the nav unit hopefully with a fully functional one and double checking the data bus wires between nav and cluster.
any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

Not exactly answering your question but I strongly recommend NOT using the factory nav because it's so outdated and there are no more map updates for it. I think the final update before it was abandoned is 2014, there will not be any newer updates to the map.
Yes I know, I have the latest map disk and it’s 14/15 map data.
I really don’t care about it being a nav, I really just wanted that screen so I can put a video jump box in between the nav unit and screen and have the alpine radio feeding the nav screen and display what I want on it.
im using an alpine ine-w987hd head unit and it has the newest map uploaded to it.
on top of that, all electrical mods i did to the car was really because Infiniti said it can’t be done.
I mostly want the oem nav to work the best it can since I already did all the work finding the parts and making a harness and connecting it to all oem locations (had to remove the dash panel to do it right).
oh I also converted my climate control box to dual zone.
Infiniti say it can’t be done too much and I take it as a challenge to do it and rub it in at the dealer lol
