The state of my 2003 G35 in 2021
All my vehicles are parked outdoors, so that's 3.5 years of full arid desert environment sunshine in Kennewick, WA which is well known for it's extreme yearly sunlight and UV damage to cars.
Interesting. My wife's Subaru's headlights are far worse than mine but I would like to do mine too. Just wondering if the sandpaper would lose its grit after doing her vehicle, I may have some sandpaper on hand to do mine in case the paper is used up.
Thanks for the recommendations.

Yeah buying a sheet of hook/loop backed sandpaper from Home Depot or elsewhere would work fine in case you need more. Just use scissors to cut it to the circle shape for the hook/loop back on the drill attachment.
I think that the sandpaper included in the kit is more than plenty for one car if you're doing JUST headlights. I usually do two vehicles at once and it's just BARELY enough of the 3000 grit pad to do headlights AND taillights, the rest there's usually a couple extra discs. One end of the car (usually tail lights) doesn't need as much work as the other end.
I just went out to the shop and verified the grit of the paper in the kit.

I couldn't find a part number for the backer pad but it's a 1/4" shaft hook/loop backer for 3" pads. It does have a foam layer on it so it's not the 01432 part number

So it sounds like cleaning/polishing with specialized products and a great deal of care is required BUT what about replacing each stock headlamp assembly outright? Do they come as single pieces of (relatively) plug and play equipment? Where to buy such aftermarket parts and what are reasonable prices?
And while my driver seat is not ripped at all, I’ve had to deal with the seat’s frame itself (its suspension) coming undone and thus requiring seat removal and welding of the frame to repair and stabilize. Seems to be holding up just fine. I generally like to keep things as original/factory/stock as possible hence no ridonkulous aftermarket “racing” seat as a replacement. As for the G35 coupe, it’s alright but I’m not a fan of its appearance (childish in my eyes) or of the ridiculous mods people do or the degree to which they are monkey wrenched on by noobs armed with nothing more than what they read on a forum. The sedan is classier (in my eyes) and is almost always better maintained than the coupes beat on by youngins.
Solution Finish is your answer for faded black trim. A one ounce bottle is more than adequate and the results last month, not weeks. Wear gloves when using it, the product contains a dye.
Optimum No Rinse Wash is a great way to wash your car in about half the time using only 2 gallons of water and 1 ounce of product. The polymers in it that remove the dirt and encapsulate it also add back gloss, it will look like you washed it and went over the paint with a quick detailer. Plus then you can use the towels to wipe down the interior, jambs, etc.
