Starter cables melted

I’ve been having issues with my 2003 Infiniti G 35 starting it just intermittently stops working so I swapped the battery made sure that my connections were clean and tight and it was still happening so I decided to go ahead and remove the starter so I can take it to AutoZone to be tested and I noticed that the cables were melted when I tried to remove the The cable to the starter the bolt completely snapped off

my question is what’s the part number or name of that cable that goes from the positive terminal of the battery down to the starter and does it connect to anything else and how do I go about removing it also do you think I’m gonna need to replace the starter as well?

Just pull a used one off a donor at a local pick-n-pull or buy one off eBay.

Usually stuff like this happens either from long cranking the engine if it won't start, anything over 10 seconds of continuously cranking the engine is going to melt the insulation off that positive battery wire, it generates a SIGNIFICANT amount of heat and is not sized for continuous duty. Or sometimes the insulation gets a little hole in it then moisture rots out the inside of the cable over time, particularly if you don't have the factory plastic lower engine shields in place, rocks and road debris damages the insulation then it's just a matter of time until the cable rots apart.

However in your photo it appears blackened, that means an arc happened, may have either been the cause or result of the damaged cable though so it's hard to say.

As for repairing the damage, I doubt you're going to find a NEW battery cable, I think that part number has been long since discontinued, I would just get a used OEM one, the studs on the starter can be replaced, they are a fairly generic item but you need to test the starter first to see if it's still good, normally when they arc out like that it destroys the starter.

That cable also goes to the alternator, there's a spliced lug in the middle of the cable that bolts to the alternator, you replace the entire cable as an assembly.
