I’ve got a 2006 G35x with about 102k and in October/November I noticed a few tight spots in my steering on each side. The resistance is in the same area degree wise when I turn left and right. I did some searching here and found that the culprit may be the steering shaft u-joint. I sprayed it with some wd-40 and that fixed my issue for a few months but I had to spray it again today.

There is no looseness or play in the steering and I don’t hear any other noises from the u-joint. Is there something else I should be spraying/applying on the joint that would last longer than a few months? I know some people have replaced them but was wondering if there is a better temporary solution if it isn’t dangerous to drive in this condition. Thank you for the help guys.

No the lower u-joint is the culprit. Fortunately it's also fairly easy to replace but you DEFINITELY need to make a match mark on both ends of the shafts when replacing the u-joint in the future so you don't throw the steering angle sensor off.

You can limp it along for a very long time by regularly spraying it down with WD-40, I don't recommend any other lubricant for it because you want the water repellent nature of WD40 but you should schedule some time for maintenance within the year.

I thought it was my PS pump going out. Since it was easy to replace I did that, made no changes.

It's $100 part and something you can DIY since it a like a 12mm bolt or something along the lines. And then you need a tiny hammer. It's pretty simple to replace from under, I looked at some 350z postings about headers hitting the steering to get more visuals.
