2006 G35 - potential good buy

All,

I'm hoping I wont be violating any policies here. I am being asked by a good friend of mine to help him find a car. He (my friend) is not mechanically inclined and needs to move on from his Infinity.

As I have not spent any time evaluating his situation, I can t be certain of much....yet. I am told that he was driving the car and something let loose causing the car to sag, as if springs or something suspension related had failed. Supposedly somebody gave him an "opinion" that the frame had broke and about $5-7K to weld/repair it. It seems hard to believe as he lives in Ky and not sure frames rust out much anymore, do they? Anyway, I am making arrangements to have the car put up in the air and get a better look at this, in the mean time, what's a baseline value of a car with 175,000 miles on it, that has been driven properly (No dents, no tears, all the glass etc)

Is there a mechanism to sell it on this forum? If he can get the issue fixed (whatever it is) he is still likely going to sell it. If he doesn't get it repaired he is still likely to sell it, or try to

Just looking to help this guy out and maybe help somebody else out too.

Thanks - Roger

A rusted out car is not a good buy for anyone. Cars do rust out in Kentucky, my son bought a 1995 Camry in 2011 from Kentucky, whole underside of the car had rust. Couldn't find the leak for the gas tank because to pull it out meant replacing the tank, straps, the bar the straps bolted to and it was going to cost more than he paid for the car. Rusted cars are a money pit. He'd be better off parting it out if the drivetrain and interior are solid.

I would start by finding out EXACTLY what component broke. It might be an easier fix than you think. If it's the front end I'm guessing compression rod.

There is a marketplace here on the forums but for a vehicle in currently broken status this probably wouldn't be the best place to sell it locally, normally the only full cars that end up in the marketplace here are very clean and/or highly modified specimens. You'll almost certainly have the best luck selling locally using the Facebook marketplace or Craigslist.
