Whether I am in reverse or drive, when I step on the gas I do not move. The engine does rev up but I don't move.

About a month ago my rear brakes badly needed replaced and my radiator blew a hole. The car went into limp mode. So we replaced the back brakes and the radiator. Flushed the air from the coolant and brake lines. Now it won't move! When you shift through the gears it definitely shifts, you can feel it doing it. But when you push the gas you don't move.
And guess what, my check engine light is not even on and the slip light went off (it was on before brakes replaced).

Help!!!! Any ideas on what to look for?

 

Look for the the OBD connector below the dash at the steering wheel and pull the codes. Report the codes here and folks will be able to help. If you don't have a reader, most parts stores will have one you can borrow.

 

Ok I can get access to one. Why wouldn't the check engine light come on if there are codes?

 

Because hidden codes are a thing.

However you're saying you CAN rev the engine, you can put the car into gear (reverse and drive) but when you rev the engine it doesn't go anywhere right?

That sounds like either really low transmission fluid, or a blown transmission.

Start with the transmission fluid. The dipstick is retained with a 10mm bolt.

 

I had been doing research and discovered I should check the transmission fluid and what do you know it's low! So you are right! Too bad I didn't just see your comment and had to watch a bunch of videos first LOL.

But now my question is can I just top it off through the dipstick hole?

Quite a few concerns I've stumbled across searching online..
Don't want to replace old transmission fluid, can cause problems in high mileage cars that haven't had it changed before.
My g has almost 200,000 miles on it and I've had it for two and a half years and never change that I highly doubt anybody else did before me. So I'm thinking I just need to add some fluid to it?

I heard many times that Gs don't use ATF fluid that they use power steering fluid as transmission fluid?!? Is this true?

Would the proper fluid be the Nissan matic s fluid? If so is that the ONLY fluid to use? If not, what fluid?

The whole myth about "you shouldn't change your transmission fluid" is absolute bullsh!t based on 1980's technology, absolutely not applicable to the 21'st century. Similar to how you no longer need to adjust your carburetor every fall/spring because we have had fuel injection since 1990.

Read this thread, it settles a lot of the old wives tales about transmission fluid changes. TL;DR, you're crazy if you think that contaminated fluid works better than clean fluid...

Matic J or Matic S is fine, Matic S superseded Matic J.

It only takes about 4 quarts to do a drain/fill, ABSOLUTELY DO NOT powerflush your system at a lube shop. That should be illegal, it almost always causes more problems. Drain/fill is all the RE5R05A transmissions need, no filter replacement is necessary.
