Talking 1st oil change at dealer...my impression...

Hello all,

It's been a while since I posted. Hope everyone is doing well. Took my car in (1600+ miles on the car after 3 months) for my 1st complimentary oil change. It was alrite...took about 1 hour and 10 mins. Got a complimentary car wash as well but that I was not impressed. A good chunk of the top of the car wasn't even washed, neither was some spots on the hood. On top of that they didn't even dry it. Had to go home and wash a bit more myself. Other than that everything was alrite. Just wondering how are other's experience when bringing their cars into the dealer. So far after 3 months, this is my experience...

1) Wish my car has MT option...but oh wellie...although I prob. drive at least 70% of the time with manu-matic. Missed the fun of the car rolling down on the hill at stop lights.
2) Without the option of sports package even with the turanzas (most of you said it's crappy), the cornering is still pretty good I think. Wish they had sports suspension for AWD. Can't wait to replace them with 225 or 235's.
3) Had a small instance of that gas pump issue where it clicks off before it's full and one time it overfilled. Dealers checked today and said the assembly is fine. I don't push the nozzle all the way when filling up and the problem hasn't happen again.
4) The paint is not that durable. Had two small chips on the side mirror probably due to debris on the road. The paint is kinda fragile. Need to get touch up paint online.
5) Black is so hardddddddddddddd to keep clean.

Ok...that's about it...dont' want to bored you guys. Of course there are good things to talk about the car but most tend to just mention about complains...just like me. Aside from that, the car just got broken in and starting to feel the power now. Oh, one last thing, my avg miles per gallon so far is 16, regardless of how much highway or local st. I have yet to break the 17 mark. Don't have a clue how you guys get it up to 24 mpg. The G is eating my wallet away.

Thats all folks...later

Interesting how the mileage #s vary so much. I was surprised to get 19.38 on my first tank. I do mostly highway miles and am expecting low 20s once it is properly broken in.

better the G then the wife

I wasnt too impressed upon my first oilchange at dealer.

1. supposidly put 10-40 in (as documented in the invoice)
2. 2 week wait for loaner car (no big deal, i didnt know... so this one is my fault)
3. failure to offer transportation alternatives (found out later) such as pick up & drop off if loaner isnt avail.
4. service person told incorrect information regarding service (if you dont know the policy DONT SPOUT BS) since it came back to bite her.
5. price... $65 for an oil chance. I'll pay the high price of 65 for an oil change but i expect equivelant service.

I havent filled out the service review sheet for two reasons. 1. my first trip there could have just been a ton of misfortunate events. and 2. I'm modding my car and would like a mutually benneficial relationship with service.

That was a pathetic read. You can get better service at a Kia dealership. And $65 for an oil change in which your dealer chose to bypass Infiniti's 5W30 recommendation and pour 10W40 in there? Unless you're living in the Sahara Desert and it's summertime, you've gotta be kidding.

Find another dealer, man, mods or no mods.

They crashed my car at the first oil change. I picked it up 10 days later, and then Yesterday I realized the body shop scratched the bumper when they re-installed it. So now they owe me another repainted front bumper. Even though its the body shops fault, I am still dissapointed in Infiniti as I told my service advisor to make sure NO ONE DRIVES my car (well joy ride). Little to my suprise there was food crumbs in it that were not from me and some spilling of some sort around my controls. Yeah I think steam came out of my ears.

Its possible the food is from the body shop. Most dealers let the employees take the loaner cars out to lunch or they can take the shuttle van/car whatever they may have.

Holy crap 16 MPG!!! Oil change at 1600 miles. Who told you to get it done at 1600? I figure the normal interval for a car. My 4runner had it at 5000 miles.

I got 19 mpg the first couple of tanks, but it was january in a suburb of boston. I then got 20 and 21 with mostly highway driving in all situations. If you drive in snow or use snow mode expect dirt for mileage. I think I got 22 once. I expect with about 50 degree weather to get better mileage, but maybe 22 and a rare 23. During the summer the car takes much less time to warm up...

The variety of MPG results is striking....My first tank was 21.7, and part way into #2 I'm sitting at 22.6.

We need more smilies on this forum....

Oh and as for the car wash thing, see how they do it. Some run it through a machine then hand dry with shammys (i dont know the correct spelling), some do it all by hand with burshes and what not. Our dealership just spent $450K for a new car wash machine thats completly touch free. The tracks are even made of a thick plastic so it dosent harm aftermarket wheels.

You dont really need to make a sign, just tell them that you dont want it washed and it wont be washed. Also you will get it back quicker because the service usually takes almost no time at all, its the time that the car sits in the wash line and the time they take to wash it that makes the wait last longer.

Yeah they washed my car. I washed the first few times myself. What I realized is the swirl marks comes in naturally. The 1st time I washed the car myself which is like 2 weeks after I had it, there were swirl marks already. It's unavoidable for black cars. Just driving in the highway with dust blowing onto your car will create swirls. I believed the dealer just use a hose and hose the car. Swirls didn't get worst. Same old swirls I expect from a black car. They did a pretty good job on the rims though. So you guys pay $65? for an dealer oil change? I want to take it back to dealer for my next one in 3 months but if it's $65 I am looking elsewhere. I thought it was like $35?

Many did it at their 1,000 mark. Do a search on the forum.

The weather is getting better, hopefully my mpg would inch up a bit.

Swirl marks ARE avoidable, even for black cars like ours - just wash with mild car wash detergent using microfiber washrags, then dry with microfiber ONLY (no chamois!). Finish up with another microfiber towel and spray detailer for a light polish (get it by the gallon at the auto body supply place) - car will look like glass. Hard to KEEP clean, though - no doubt !

I am not sure then. I bought the car in Christmas. Then about 2 or 3 weeks later I washed it the first time. I rinsed it with soap and then I used microfiber to clean it. Before I had the chance to clean it I see some minor swirls already. Anyway, a little swirl here and there is fine. I won't lose sleep over it. I have yet to bring it to a car wash place. Probably won't plan to. If it bothers me in a few years I'll just have it detail.
