Dealer swap....anyone with experience/comments?
Hey everyone,
I'm looking for a G with pretty specific options that the closest dealer does not have on the lot. The salesperson found one and said they could do a dealer swap but the car would have several hundred miles on it, due to the fact that someone would have to go there to pick it up and drive it back. Is this standard procedure?

I suppose you might have luck getting them to send it by flat bed. It's really up to the dealer because if you've set your heart on buying the car from them and it's got to be the "pretty specific options" package you've described then they're in the driver's seat. Of course, you could probably order the car for delivery. That could take some time and you might not have as much give on price. Have you searched Infiniti's online inventory? You might get a lucky match with your specs at a different nearby dealer.
I second that
My dealer paid to put an '05 Diamond Graphite 6MT sedan on a flatbed from Austin for me, as he didn't have one in stock without the Aero package (the dealer is in Dallas). I never even put down a deposit. When it arrived, it still had the shipping plastic on the wheels. When I had second thoughts on the color and went with the Ivory Pearl he had on the lot, he didn't bat an eye.
That's service.
These are premium cars we're talking about. You're paying a good chunk of money for one. If your dealer won't pay to bring the car in on a flatbed, find another dealer and tell yours to take down his Infiniti sign and replace it with a blue oval.

We've done dealer trade twice - we got her QX-4 from Nashville (185 mi), my G35 from Jackson (235 mi)
Both cars were delivered in perfect shape, and since we lease, the mileage just started from the odometer reading at delivery.
Many dealers hire retired folks to do the driving (my father in law has done it), so I'm betting there's little need to worry about abuse on the delivery.
If you can get them to flatbed it, that'd be great.

I would also insist on the flatbed. I lucked out w/ mine and locked it up w/ a deposit the day after it had been unloaded off of the semi the night before. I went to see it in person and it was covered in plastic inside and out. No other test drives besides the one at the factory and the one after dealer prep. I also lease, and w/ the 60,000 mile warranty I will always be covered, but I still couldn't get a "new" car w/ 200 miles on it. I guess dealers vary... at the Infiniti dealership I bought from, they have one or two demos of every car. If you want to drive one that is what you drive - never a brand new one. When I drove the TL at the neighboring dealer, they brought up a just delivered 6 speed w/ 2 miles on it! Needless to say, I had it at the redline several times, and someone else is going to buy it. Probably does not hurt it, but I still prefer as few miles as possible.
I acquired my G through a dealer trade. The dealer had it delivered on a flatbed truck. No extra miles acquired. I also got my wife's MDX through a dealer trade and it was also sent via flatbed.

It is all upto the dealer....
if they make enough $$$ off you, and you request flat bed, they might think about it...
if they don't make much $$ off you, no way they gonna spend more $ to get the car flatbeded for you...
make sure you two reach a aggreement before they get the car over to their dealer, it will be such a pain in the a$$ to resolve after the car's there and u don't want the extra miles.....
by the way, which dealer is it?
